thank you to netgalley for a free arc of this book in exchange for an honest review!
3.5 stars!
a fun read with an interesting world i'd like to read more of! the world building seemed a little choppy/confusing to me though, almost as if there was a book that must've come before this one that truly introduced/explained the world and magic. it was still entertaining and left me wanting to dive back in!
the romance was okay but definitely rushed to me, the chemistry was being built and then it all of a sudden seemed like they were exchanging I love yous with not enough middle/relationship building

The premise of this book was fantastic and the writing was beautiful. I listened to this as an audio book and the narration was amazing. We follow Zaria who is a slave with no recollection of her life before she was enslaved. In an effort to free herself and her siblings she enters a life-or-death race for freedom. The race leads her to join the Savage King, Harken on not only an epic adventure, but a fascinating investigation. With a cast of intriguing characters and a unique magic system this was a really fun read.

There were some moments where I found myself wanting the story to move more quickly. I really enjoyed the story, but I would have been more engaged and enjoyed it even more if it was trimmed up just a bit. I am definitely looking forward to the next book.

I received this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you, NetGalley, for an arc of this book.

Unfortunately, that’s 6ish hours of my life I’ll never get back.

First and foremost, for anyone scanning reviews for the actual spice level (I can’t be the only one, right?), there is next to none. Seriously, I’d give this *maybe* 1/4

Thank you to NetGalley for access to the book in exchange for an honest review.

Bottom line: good premise obscured by an over-abundance of detailed lore.

I was immediately drawn to the book by the absolutely lovely cover, the comparison to ACOTAR, and the blurb promising enemies-to-lovers court intrigue with a unique magic system. While the characters of Zaria (captive Chosen One) and Harken (king of a hidden court) had some snappy dialogue and interesting interactions, I felt overwhelmed by the rest of the characters and the lore. There was simply too much: too much Capitalization, too much world history dropped at once, too much telling instead of showing, too many named characters to keep track of... I found my attention wandering more often than it should've. This one simply wasn't for me. If you like lots of detail and history in your epic fantasies, this one might be for you.

Thanks you for proving me the ARC. This is my first time reading fantasy in english and it was a quite unique travel.

I really tried to like this story, but it's wasn't for me. It isn't bad, it just not appeal for me. I kinda liked the fmc. She's strong and lovely. I love how she started being slave and ending being a lady. What a amazing glowup!

Anyways, if you want to read some fantasy good to not think about anything else, maybe this is for you.

i got access to this book from netgalley in exchange for an honest review!
i’m DNFing at 31%. i’m 150 pages in and i’m so confused. this book has a lot of good potential with a plot, but the execution was just not it for me. this author does a lot of info-dumping and telling not showing, which is hard to follow. there are so many characters introduced within the first 50 pages that i can’t keep track of them all. this book may work for some but it just wasn’t for me!
I want to thank Lucy Holden, the publisher and netgalley for giving me access to this story!

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

A compelling and exciting story from start to finish. The intricate and complex world, magic and building drew me in. If you are a fan of magic fantasy, slow burn romance and a strong FMC you can do no wrong with this book, I couldn’t put it down.

I love the FMC she wasn’t perfect but had growth and development she was strong and determined but had fears and weaknesses. The love for her family and securing their freedom shone through.

I can’t wait for the next instalment and what happens with Harken, Zaria and the rest of her family.

My only criticism was at the beginning the world and magic was a little complicated to understand but as you go through the book it all begins to make sense.

I would like to thank Netgalley for providing me with an ARC copy of this book. I really love the cover photo of this book. It is quite eye-catching and I requested this book due to it.

This is a fantasy romance novel that follows the story of Zaria, a slave who is claimed by Harken, the Savage King. She has to pretend to be his slave in a dangerous game of intrigue and deception, while hiding her own secrets that link her to him and his past. The book is the first in the Woven Saga series, and it is set in a world where immortal Weavers create and manipulate reality with their threads.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys fantasy romance with a dark and mysterious edge. The book has 498 pages and it was published on June 4, 2023 by Sticky Notes On Kindle Scribe. You can buy it on Amazon or listen to it on Audible. I hope you enjoy reading or listening to Woven In Darkness by Lucy Holden!

Dnf at 50%. I don’t even want to try to figure out what’s going on. It started promising but now it’s just become so confusing but also boring at the same time? I don’t know what to pay attention too. I received a free audio ARC from Netgalley. Maybe this would be better to read but when I listened I found myself just not even trying to pay attention.
