I don’t usually leave reviews but I’m finishing this part of the series for the first time and I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen such a fizzling out and wasting of ideas. Most of these books could have an easy 100 pages cut out if not more. There’s no reason why this book should be almost 500 pages. The excitement of the first few books left a long time ago. Why are we supposed to suddenly care about Mattie? Are these kids actually friends or just people thrust together? Why are there weird references to slavery? You’ve got one black main character and you’ve gotta tag in slavery as a plot point? The Return wasn’t the weakest in the Keepers Universe (that would go to Shell Game), but this is really close. I’m disappointed to say the least.
