very zany, the philosophy and existentialism of it all went over my head a bit. interesting and absurdist buried themes of the line and power struggle for definition and identity between character/role and actor, destiny and purpose. interesting premise, and very funny characters. stage directions were very vivid and added another layer to the reading experience, the stage is used really well by stoppard’s characters.

phenomenal mystery. extremely well written and put together. every character and moment brought up by jackson is intentional and points towards the conclusion. still a few loose ends (there’s two other books in the series, need to leave something to be written about). i *never* .75-star a story, but it would’ve been a 5-star if not for for what happened to the dog. don’t do the dog like that. otherwise the most compelling and addictive book i’ve read in a hot minute.

didn’t love it like i loved blue horses, some poems were sweet and good lines here and there but the overall collection fell flat for me.  they can’t all be hits, mary oliver is still one of the GOATs in my eyes.

too many very minor side characters that show up for a scene and are gone for no reason, but secondary characters are mostly interesting (IRIS SPIN OFF WHEN?). delilah’s character arc and growth throughout the novel, and her dynamic/story with her stepsister astrid (who doesn’t get developed almost at ALL in this book, even though her wedding is the overarching plot) is far more endearing than the central romance between delilah and claire. i mean, they barely go on *one* date. still, a funny and heartwarming and sweet easy read.

character work done right. we follow them through their whole adult lives, see their growth and  development as they grow into full-fledged adults. David Nichols builds his characters skillfully annd thoroughly and lets their poignant relationship with each other happen as it will. compelling and emotional, slow burning, although anything but a drag to read.
