This is my favorite Ali Hazelwood book so far! The relationship between Jack and Elsie is chefs kiss 💋 I related so much to Elsie and her struggle to people please and unmask. Jack encourages her honesty throughout and I couldn’t love him more.

17 years ago a tragedy ripped apart two childhood friends almost loves and now 10 years later, still pining for each other, they are back in each other’s lives in the most unexpected way….

Minor Annoyances —————

- I needed more childhood flashbacks to form that solid connection. And to help break my heart more…
- too much ballet talk — the obsession made me internally cringe
- Juniper — kids in books can always be a gamble, this child is SO MANIPULATIVE, and the adults just go with it 😒
- I wanted the plot twists to keep shocking me and it was more of a let down 🙁
- I just wanted this to be a SLOW AF BURN, it wasn’t, I wanted it to honestly make me pine along with them, not really…
- the hatred of ballet from Caroline was really not understandable and even when we find out more — ehhh?

The characters, the story, the mystery — loving it. Without giving away things — I suggest going in blind to this one.

Kennedy is a ballerina and former daughter of a man who committed a ponzi scheme — whom she sent to prison….penniless and in hiding she moves to Sutter Lake looking to reinvent herself.  Cain is a self made billionaire of a security company, who has decided to move back to Sutter Lake looking to reconnect with his friends and get away after the death of his mother….

This wasn’t my favorite. Cain was a little too possessive, but the story had some good points… I just think he fell tooo fast. I would have preferred a slow AF burn instead.

This is a dark, addicting fantasy series that has hooked me in! I know this series is going to be good — I can feel it. Gild is definitely an intro book that sets the stage for the rest of the series. Lots of world building and an intriguing storyline that will keep you going.

Auren, our FMC, is very intriguing. She comes across as a little naive, sheltered, caring, funny, and very brave. She is also in love with her captor. As a child she was saved by Midas, who tricked her into believing he loved her and would protect her. For over a decade she has lived in this golden cage believing everything. We feel her struggles throughout the story. She starts off weak, but ends strong. I can’t wait to see more of her character development as we continue on.
