Does It Hurt? by H.D. Carlton

I read this book for one thing and one thing only, the shark scene. It did not disappoint. I will say I found myself not liking the MMC for most of the book, it truly took when his actually character arc started for me to give him a chance. Which is the point of a character arc but normally I give these guys way too much leeway. The chemistry was fantastic, the lighthouse and the whole plot of the book is a chef's kiss. It was such an enjoyable read but I expect nothing less from H.D. Carlton.

Oh my gosh did Jescie Hall not disappoint. I normally hate cheating in books, won't pick up a book if I know the main character is cheating BUT I made an exception because of a teaser I saw on TikTok that made me go "okay but like Hawke seems worth it". AND BOY WAS I RIGHT. The plotline, the character arcs, the chemistry omg it was all chef's kiss! It was quite emotional and fun at the same time. This will not be the last Jescie Hall book I will read anytime soon.

As mentioned in the previous review, it is essential to acknowledge the trigger warnings thoughtfully provided by the author. Furthermore, the inclusion of Zade's occupation and the exposure of pedophile rings within the narrative further highlights the importance of justice and the healing process. Screams in Symphony by Kelsey Clayton

"Screams in Symphony" picks up right where the heart-wrenching cliffhanger of "Suffer in Silence" left us hanging.

Kage is understandably overwhelmed, and those initial chapters are agonizing to witness. However, this is only the beginning; things get even more challenging before they start to improve.

As the narrative unfolds, the puzzle pieces gradually fall into place. We witness Saxon's recovery, both physically and mentally, and observe her transformation into a new, stronger, more self-assured, and unrelenting version of herself. Simultaneously, we see Kage's evolution as he embraces Saxon as his equal, recognizing her as more than a delicate flower to be sheltered and kept in the dark.

This duet was truly epic, and "Screams in Symphony" provides an especially gratifying conclusion. I adored every aspect of it! The constant action, scorching-hot scenes, and well-paced character development delivered everything my insatiable dark heart desires, all within the captivating and twisted world of mafia romance.

Outstanding mafia romance that's both intense and tantalizing. "Suffer in Silence" serves as the first installment of the Malvagio Mafia Duet, delivering a dark romance that satisfies all my mafia storytelling desires: it's filled with unexpected twists, suspense, action, and gritty moments, accompanied by a generous helping of emotional turmoil and sizzling passion. The narrative is further enriched by its diverse and intriguing cast of characters. However, the cliffhanger ending leaves readers hanging. I immediately went and got book 2.

Meet Saxon Forbes, the eldest daughter of her family and a pre-med student known for her virtuous nature. All she desires for her 21st birthday is a simple family dinner. But when her best friend Nessa persuades her to visit Pulse, Saxon's life takes an unexpected turn as she locks eyes with Kage Malvagio, instantly captivated by him. Unaware of Kage's true identity and occupation, Saxon is, nevertheless, on his radar due to her connection to her grandfather, Silas Kingston.

Following her beloved grandfather's passing, Saxon finds herself unwittingly entangled in the midst of a mafia and bratva conflict, and the circumstances leading to her predicament are even more unsettling.

What unfolds is the tale of Kage's relentless pursuit of vengeance and his unexpected emotions for Saxon, who proves herself capable of standing her ground against the enigmatic and emotionally distant Don.

This fast-paced narrative will engage you right from the start and leave you breathless as you turn the final page. I'm eager for answers and can't wait to immerse myself in "Symphony."
