I gave myself a couple of days to think about it. The book is marked as a retelling of Lady Macbeth and a Feminist story. Regarding the retelling, I'm honest, I never read Lady Macbeth and my knowledge of it is close to none. About being a feminist book, I honestly disagree with it. I really wanted to like this book but I did not. The pace of the story was too fast for me and it felt like it missed something. When I think of Lady Macbeth, I always think of someone very cunning and a bit evil but I couldn't see anything like that in this version. To be fair in the book it is mentioned quite a lot that she is only 17 so I get it that she is just a child who tries to survive in a male world. I'm not going to go into much detail so I'm not going to spoil too much but there is a male character at the beginning I was interested but in the end, I felt we didn't really need him. I was very invested in the dynamic between Lady Macbeth and her maid but unfortunately, like the rest of the characters, it was poorly developed. So what did a like of this book? The writing and the gothic atmosphere.
