I received this ARC through a giveaway on The StoryGraph.
Flew through this in a day, which is probably the highest form of a compliment I can give since I'm not much of a fast reader anymore. I was entertained the whole time, even during the parts where I thought the pacing was off. I like a good enemies to lovers dynamic and The Soul Feud features a real example of the dynamic, not the one where they are enemies because of a misunderstanding. The leads start off on the wrong foot and have some preconceived notions of each other because of it. Some of the banter at the beginning feels rough and uncomfortable, particularly from the MMC and his lack of cultural awareness and overall ignorance. He does get better, but that takes some time. The romantic relationship is good, nothing reinventing, but I did like how they pushed each other to better and the growth they both had. Overall, I had a good time and would recommend if you get can past the rough start.

What more could you ask from a short story? Beautiful writing, a thrilling plot, and a long-lasting impact. Very much deserving of all the hype it has received.

A beautiful love letter to Black hair. The experiences depicted in it felt like depictions of tales I’ve had with my own hair and the hair of Black women in my life. I wish it was longer, but for how long it was, it was perfect.
