A spooky fun short story from Bram Stoker about a student who stays at a haunted house infested with rats. This story is a fun taste of Stoker in a small portion. It is a tiny bit predictable, but still enjoyable. “Rats Is Bogeys and Bogeys Is Rats” is also a haunting and iconic line that this story left in my head after its conclusion.

This book was a bit hard for me to get into personally due to the heavy lore surrounding it. That said once I was in, I was in, this book was a great ride. I greatly enjoyed being able to see and dive into the cut throat world of the Harkonnen, Fremen, Bene Gesserit, and Atreides. The dialogue, world building, fast paced plot, and characters all made for a great read.

A great Alien story. Personally, I enjoyed being taken on a journey by this book. Listening to how the alien story could have developed if the Cold War would have lasted longer. The added sound effects enchanted my experience as well. I really enjoyed how the aliens mixed with animals and a part of me is sad we never got to see this on the big screen. If you are an Alien fan this is worth a listen for sure. I also found the ending surprisingly completive, although a bit corny. However, I still hold that it has a message that is still relevant today about how at the end of the day we are all human.

Interesting statements on the fall of empire and the idea of overarching historical trends. However, as with most other foundation stories from Asimov I personally found the characters flat and forgettable. This book felt like it was trying to be a bit more character driven than some of the other Foundation novels I had read and I honestly was not interested in those moments. That said, if you like history and philosophy, this book as well as Foundation and Empire are worth a read for the overarching societal ideas that they put forward and play with throughout.
