Great novella, relatable characters, I loved the setting in the human lands. Great pacing, I wish it was even longer.

This was beautiful, lyrical, moving. My favorite piece of this book: "There are certain memories that remain inviolate to the ravages of time. And to those of suffering. It is not true that everything is colored by time and suffering. It is not true that they bring everything to ruin."

A novella told through purple prose and letters— extremely difficult to follow, but comes together by the end. Athough I assume it was intentional, there were still too many questions left unanswered to allow me to fully enjoy this book. How did agents time travel? How was this technology invented? Did the rival companies create time travel separately or did they diverge from one entity? I wish it leaned more into the sci-fi and less into the literary. Another issue is that both Red and Blue felt like they had the same speaking voice, which made it difficult to discern their distinct personalities. I think this is best read by a special kind of reader, who enjoys reflecting on characters and projecting their experiences onto them (eg. sapphic yearning) rather than enjoying a coherent plot or substantive world building.

die hard meets alien with a hint of cheek and ya romance.
I just wish the authors had the guts to actually kill off the main characters.

I wish we were given a world map or other world building elements to help better define some of the countries outside of Sky. The city itself was beautifully written, but some of the minor godlings fell flat. I think I generally expected more from this book. I'm not sure yet if I will continue the trilogy.

This was a good book with great representation, but it could have been better developed. I can't tell at times if this was meant to be magical realism or urban fantasy, in which case I wish there was more world building or a better understanding of the magic system that helped create Pet. The story was unique and the characters were very human, but the message was also a bit heavy handed. I know I'm not the intented audience, but I'm not sure if I would have liked this if I read it during middle school. There is some discussion on punitive justice vs. restorative justice and the importance of the later, but it doesn't make sense to me that at the same time, the main characters act vindicatively toward the villain/monster. It feels like a conflicting message.
