loved the pairing in the book! didn’t suspect it at the start, but happy that it ended the way it did!
i also appreciated the acknowledgement about how childhood relationships impact adult relationships and how that isn’t an excuse, but is part of coming to know a person.

this book was a lot of things: adorable romance, an honest look at PTSD and trauma and the effects of those on relationships, and it featured very human characters. they were hurt by different things, but never succumbed to hurting the other person back. loved this book very much.

my lower rating has more to do with the quality of the writing than with the content of the book.
i really appreciated the inside look into an abusive relationship, and what, exactly, could make it hard for someone to leave. and showing how the issue of domestic abuse is not black and white. there are real people involved, with big feelings.
i did not love the writing; it felt simplistic and preachy at times. but the goal of the book was not to be a timeless classic, colleen hoover had a specific vision in mind and achieved it, i think.
