this is a novel with a really intriguing writing style and some really exciting ideas that is ultimately a frustrating let down because it really has potential. I loved Blandine’s character, and I feel like this could’ve been a more bloody and weird The Virgin Suicides with some editing.

this novel paints very interesting portraits of three american women whose lives have been negatively impacted by men (men who then refuse to accept blame or take accountability), but framed squarely in the context of their sexual desire and their interpersonal relationships. I wish the author provided more analysis and discussed a more direct POV on connections between these women’s traumatic experiences and their current behavior and feelings. I also thought the book lacked a queer perspective, which, beyond representing a wider range of women, would have provided an interesting and needed contrast to those who center men in their lives so strongly! I still found it insightful and challenging of my beliefs at times. I also found myself cheering for every main character often and just want the bets for them. a good book club read!

very beautifully written and translated- I had to stop and just sit with certain sentences and ideas. however, the plot didn’t punch me as hard as I wanted, and I was ultimately underwhelmed.

I genuinely don’t know what really happened in this book or how to describe this book to someone else, but I did like the vibe

I had a really hard time putting this down- I finished it in two sittings!! what a wild fucking ride. I love books that make you question whether you're following a character into a delusional descent or if there really is something fantastical and magical happening. such a strong debut. I am looking forward to reading Jade Song's next novel!
