This truly has read up to this point like a knock off hunger games and I cannot go on. I’m so bored.

I got a handful of chapters in, and just felt so truly bored. This storyline fell so flat for me. I love Casey’s other works soooo much but this storyline felt so boring and uneventful. Theo I thought was a guy until I realized she wasn’t and that felt ultra disappointing somehow. The back and forth “I still have feelings for him but I hate him” trope makes me wanna gouge out my eyes. Like figure it out or don’t, but don’t try to suck me in to your bullshit lol.

Kit seems interesting but I feel like we don’t get any insight as to what his deal is or was, at least not by the time I stopped reading. He seemed really kind and nice and she was always inwardly  grumpy towards him? Idk.

I *maybe* might try this again at a later time, but as of August 2024, this is a big chonky DNF for me.

The smut was great. The plot was fucking stupid. The established character development towards the last 20% went out the fucking window.

All I have to say is I wish I was the person I was before the “human shield” scene. I spent the last 10 chapters just roiling with frustration and a bad attitude toward the author making a stupid call for  “plot twist”.

Don’t even get me started on the two epilogues and what the names of the children were 🤡💩
