Did not finish book. Stopped at 10%.
Big nope for me. It's like reading the goth girl's journal in high school if you broke up with her the day before and she knew you were going to read it.

I originally gave this 4.25 stars, but then found myself thinking about this book and talking about it more than many other books I read this year. It's not stunning literature that will change the world, but the insidious way it burrows into your brain and makes you uncomfortable and on edge is something I have not experienced in a long time. Honestly in such a subtle way the horror of this book snuck up on me. It shocked me the way predictable horror troupes have fallen short of for years now. I appreciate the feeling of being a new, imaginative reader again. That's worth 5 stars and more.

The writing is good. The characters are exceptionally fleshed out, but the story doesn't really go anywhere. It's more of a character portrait of a teenager on outskirts like a 1,000 other stories. I think it would've worked better as a short story. Nothing meaty enough for a novel.
