I really, REALLY enjoy FM's writing style. She does thriller and suspense really well while making the story enjoyable. You feel like you're reading a story while also having a plot point that's mysterious. I've read a few of her books now and this was in my top 3 for sure! The fun thing about FM books is that it's never who you actually think it is, which makes me suspect everyone for every little thing! Swipe to see the mini notes I took while reading. Will not be conforming or denying any of their truth - you'll have to read it to find out!

-1 star because I wasn't a huge fan of the ending. I felt there were other avenues she could've gone down that would've had more "wow" factor.

I REALLY enjoyed this book. It was a fun take on magical fantasy featuring a world that is similar enough to others that we didn't need massive world building, but unique enough to set it apart from others. The letters were such a fun twist and I'm curious to learn more about the 3 friends who had the typewriters that connected them.

-1 star because I wish they would have gone more into the dating phase and not straight from rivals to friends to (spoilers here) marriage. I wish we would have seen them develop a bit more as a couple with sacrifices and learning more about each other outside of the letters. Overall, it was an amazing book. I read it in nearly one sitting (I drove home then plopped on the couch to read it again), and glad it got me out of my book slump!

This review hurts. I LOVE Percy Jackson. I was so excited to dive back into the universe and have Percabeth back in my life, but something about it just felt lack luster. The first book in this series was also... bland. I don't know if its because this is directed at kids and I'm not a child anymore but I wish it was faster paced or skipped over a lot of the parts that we already know (we know PJ has dyslexia, we know he loves blue foods, we know he is tired of doing quests... yet he keeps doing them!)
