 Content Warnings: sexual content

I should have paid more attention to the page count in this book before starting...I went into this excited to see how this love story unfolded because I was not expecting this to be insta-love.

The age gap in this felt unnecessary...like why did she need to be closer to 20 and him closer to 40?! As a gamer romance, even knowing he was a retired pro-gamer...I expected them both to be mid 20s or both early 30s...the age gap, for me, just gave a cringy and gross aspect that wasn't necessary. Granted in my experience guys over 30 that date girls barely over 18 tend to be assholes that are controlling so maybe the age gap is totally great for others πŸ€·πŸ½β€β™€οΈ

Do you like dark romance with masked men? Men who would literally massacre the world for you? Men who want nothing more than to keep you between them forever?

This was a very hot dark romance haha there were a few things that I felt were unnecessary but overall I really enjoyed the wild ride this book took me on.

I stumbled over the summary of the 3rd or fourth book and thought...hey I love dark romance with killers...my as well read the whole series...and am I glad I started book 1.

[Brynne's great about having a full list of trigger warnings at the start of all her books...just in case I'm not remembering everything πŸ˜…]

Since reading B&B I've been waiting to find out just what happened between Lachlan and Lark and their story did not disappoint. 😌 I am sad that because this was trad pub'd we didn't get gorgeous chapter art like we did in the indie B&B *sigh* but its all good maybe there will be special editions later 🀞🏽

***This review will most likely have spoilers from B&B so don't read further if you haven't read B&B. ****

I LOVED getting to know Lark more and seeing that yes she is the bubbly spot of light that Sloane always talked about but she's also so much more and has so many layers.

It was so easy to relate to Lark...someone who always feels like she has to be on around others because she feels like its her job to bring positivity and love into all her loved ones lives. She doesn't want to burden her loved ones with the other, darker, parts of herself. She genuinely exhausts herself trying to be what she thinks everyone needs.

Then we have Lachlan who's carried a heavy weight on his shoulders since the murder of his father. As the oldest Kane he feels responsible for the safety and wellbeing of his younger brothers...and because of that he's never really let himself have anything just for himself. Almost like he's been punishing himself for years...so meeting someone like Lark, and only really seeing the surface, irritates him because she seems so carefree and unserious when he's all business.

I really loved seeing these two open up to each other and share their more vulnerable sides with each other...sides they haven't even fully shared with those closest to them.

Okay now for some spoilery thoughts about the book ^^

Okay at first I was totally thrown by the fact that Lark was a multiple deleter...but then when I thought about how Sloane really has put her on a pedestal for years...it makes more sense that Sloane wouldn't notice all the little suspicious things about Lark that would out her as someone with similar hobbies.
I remember in B&B how someone mentioned that people around Lark's family tending to disappear but Sloane only ever mentions that one kill...so now things make waaay more sense.
Lark's "never again" mantra...really hit me. She essentially blames herself to Sloane becoming a killer and refuses to ever let someone else take care of someone responsible for hurting her again.
I am still so curious about Fion and Rose's relationship...that Rose chapter makes it seem like she dies...especially when you think back about Lark asking Lachlan if Fion's coming for Christmas...not Fion and Rose...I'm really hoping Rose isn't killed off because I'm so invested in learning more about how Fion and Rose met and what his hesitation with her was...

*sigh* Two series in a row where I failed to see if there was more than one book out before starting πŸ˜’

This book felt longer than it needed to be and some things were obvious from the beginning...however I still enjoyed it and look forward to seeing where the story goes in the next book.

*Spoilers Below*

[ It was obvious from the start that our Princess wasn't just human and as soon as she met her dragons you could tell they were fated mates...so it was a little annoying that both those things were drawn out so long before the reveal.
I find it weird...that she knows they have some kind of connection and these men are the HEIRS of dragon kinds...and yet as much as she wants them all she fails to mention to them that she took a potion rendering her infertile... ngl I'm going to be really pissed if she ends up pregnant in the next book like a "miracle pregnancy"...she's so convinced the potion worked...and if it did then there better be a damn good explanation if she gets pregnant.
All that being said I look forward to reading book two and seeing what direction the author takes these characters.

I loved this story! Not only do we get a queer dark romance between a cop and a mafia man but we also get autistic rep in Enzo.

Ngl I know that solving the mystery of who was sabotaging the Vitale brothers was important...but I really couldn't have cared less πŸ˜… all I cared about was seeing how Tex and Enzo would make their relationship work ^^

Ahh how could it end like that?! 😭

I'm definitely already invested and can't wait for volume 2!

There seems to be so much more to these two ladies than what I first thought...I can't wait to learn more about them individually and their history together.

Ngl, I didn't realize this was already an established universe...and I didn't read any other books in it πŸ˜… that being said... I LOVED this book.

I loved getting to see how Roc, Hook, and Wendy deeply care about each other even though they all have a really rocky and intense history.

Looking forward to reading other books in this universe so hopefully I'll be able to understand more and dive even deeper in.

Wow! I randomly stumbled on the summary of this book and though...why not...and OMG am I glad I did!

We get the story of a couple who've been put through pain and torture and their only joy in life was each other...sent on a mission to kill a god.

The worldbuilding, the mystery, the love these characters share... 🀌🏽

And now I have to wait until August to find out what else happens πŸ₯Ή
