Henry and June: From a Journal of Love: The Unexpurgated Diary (1931-1932) of Anais Nin by Anaïs Nin

Banger prose and this is just a diary!!! Long as hell tho.
Grief Is for People by Sloane Crosley
4.5
Sloane Crosley has produced her fair share of memoir bangers, but this is by far the most earnest and well-crafted. As someone who lost a family member suddenly due to suicide, it’s incredibly relatable. We really don’t know what anyone is going through or why they did it. We simply have to learn how to live without them
The Secret History by Donna Tartt

Absolutely diabolical in craft and also a romp. So rich in references but it’s about a bunch of weirdo nerds who take their nerdery too far. Actually, truly, genre-bending. Makes me want to get an MFA (I will not be doing this as a competitive academic environment where we are creating a body of work would kill me). Am patiently waiting for DT4 and I fear I will hate the rest of her oeuvre, and that’s fine by me. This book is a heater. Also didn’t mind the length as I’m a person who watches some anime filler and I love a little side adventure.
Down the Drain by Julia Fox
3.0
A memoir that feels like Fox is FaceTiming you right from her apartment on a Saturday morning. Wish there was more introspection, some dialogue does feel a little corny, but hey, that’s memory’s way of trying to get a point across. Julia Fox didn’t consult an editor on this book, but she should talk to a therapist therapist after all she’s been through.
The Guest by Emma Cline

This book made me so ANXIOUS but I loved it. Great class commentary and despicable, unreliable narrator. If you have watched uncut gems more than once, you will devour this book.
Beach Read by Emily Henry

A fun little romp! Hated the parts where the FMC was like “WHY DO YOU HATE ME” and the MMC is like “… I literally don’t??” What do the facts suggest mama!! Also a little too long, wish more of Gus’ book stuff was fleshed out

Major points docked for the giant HR violations and cliches but points added for the buttstuff and good steamy scenes.

What a wild ride of a book. A beautifully built thriller, really doing something different with the genre. Loved all the natural imagery.
