SCUM Manifesto by Valerie Solanas

Just to be clear, my rating of the book doesn't speak to whether I agree with the views of the author or not. I just found this to be highly entertaining.
I almost gave up on this mostly because the introduction never seemed to end, it's a bit unfair for the intro to be just as long as the manifesto itself. Finally getting to the manifesto was when I was hooked. Extreme, vulgar, wild, interesting, a bit cathartic.
Yet this is nothing compared to the amount of media that is out there depicting violence and hatred against women, very loudly and proudly, that make this book seem mild. Hell, there are ordinary conversations between men that casually degrade women in a way that would put the scum manifesto to shame.

The characters weren't just unlikable but also unreadable. I didn't get anything from this story, nothing of value. It seemed pointless from start to finish. Also, some things with Frances were almost identical to the character, Marianne, in the author's other book, Normal People. That struck me as strange.
Broken Throne by Victoria Aveyard

Some parts of this book were boring, some were excellent. But this is definitely a better ending than War Storm. Though I believe stories should be ended in a satisfying manner without the help of a novella or anything (Because many people don't read them) I'm glad we have one in this case.
I enjoyed the history of the Calores and the short story about Cal's mother. The romance between her and his father was cute but it was also painful to read as her mental health grew worse. Steel Scars, the novella with Farley as the POV (while I love her) was very boring. It was longer than it needed to be but still it had some good scenes.
The novells with the princess and Ashe was my absolute favourite. The characters were so interesting, it was like a traditional girl running from home and the guy ends up getting tangled up in her problems but with a Red Queen twist to it. It was fun and adorable.
Nothing much happens in Evangeline's story, there was just alot of characters thinking about stuff, it got repetitive quickly. I did like some parts of it, though. Mainly Eve standing up to her mother and accepting herself as a new person.
The same with Mare and Cal. It dragged longer than necessary but I've always enjoyed Mare's point of view and felt that the conclusion to her story was really unsatisfying so I didn't have too much of an issue with it.
Maven's chapter was like his ones in War Storm but I got so emotional towards the end. Fighting for once against his mother's whispers to not hurt Cal one last time was such a tug at my heart strings. Plus Cal visiting his grave gave me chills and I felt so bad for him. He really did love Maven even after all the terrible things he did. Because he remembered the child he used to be.
My favourite part had to be the last chapter where we're told about what goes on to happen with Norta. I was literally hyperventilating reading about Mare and Cal's kids (Shade and Corian Calore, KILL ME) and then Clara and Evangeline and her peace talks or negotiations with Iris. I loved all of it. It made me so happy to read about these characters that I've stuck with for so long finally getting to live their lives. It's the ending I wanted and I'm so glad I got it.
Recommended if you, like me, weren't all too happy with War Storm's ending. This is definitely a much better farewell.

The Midnight Library by Matt Haig

This might be my most favorite book of all time. I think the Midnight Library might touch those deeply who struggle with the constant nagging thoughts of "what if?" and tend to live in those moments where they could have made a different choice.
