The Only Boy by Jordan Locke
3.0
"Throughout history, men have been a destructive, repressive force. Believe me, we are better off without them."
This one deserves to be in the Most-Unique-Book-Ever shelf. The idea of wiping out Men in the map? I know *some* women out there who’d wish that.. maybe I might have played with that thought before but, what if? What if Men went extinct? What will happen? Will women survive on their own? Heck yeah we will! But it’s not the same of course. The balance is gone and as much as how some of men out there acts, we do need them. The Only Boy made it’s readers think and showed us the possible consequence of wiping guys on earth.
I’ve been in a rollercoaster of emotions! It all starts when Taylor, a boy (gasps!) comes into Section One after his compound was bombed. Mary is in Section One and when she saw Taylor she found herself intrigued and interested.
Locke executed the concept very well. It’s believable and well written. His characters are very strong and has a voice that are unforgettable. Like I said above, I went through a rollercoaster of emotions because of The Only Boy. There’s no dull chapter and what Taylor and Mary went through kept me at the edge of my seat.
I’d say that Mary and Taylor’s romance was kind of unbelievable since, hello, Taylor was the only boy that Mary knew but I love how the author tested their relationship. This is the kind of romance that says that, yes, they do belong to each other.
My only problem though is the ending. It’s fine, really, but I’m not a fan of open endings unless it’s a series. I would really like to know what’s going to happen to them. Other than that, The Only Boy is a fast paced and an unforgettable read. I’m starting to like Dystopia again. Praise for Jordan Locke!

i can't get into it *long sigh* I really want to like this! It started great but there's nothing happening that could help me want to finish it. I'm halfway through and I feel no epicness, which I was expecting and it's starting to bore me. Maybe if I have time I'll pick this again and try reading it.

Breakfast Served Anytime allured me with it's beautiful cover. But man! I was so disappointed.
I'm blaming Gloria. I think the author wants Gloria to come out as poetic because of her way of telling the story but that's not what I got at all. Gloria rambles. She wants to talk about everything and she makes simple things complicated. So I thought, hmmm okay, the protagonist is annoying me but maybe I'll get something from the plot.
I was bored. I was dozing off the whole time. I tried, really tried. Then I just decided that it wasn't worth it anymore. I have a lot of books to read and I don't have time for this.

Sorry, can't take it anymore. So I just dropped it then skimmed the rest.
Exile started really great for me. Summer, the MC, was a a little bit over dramatic and demanding. But she manages bands! That's why her attitude is yeah, reasonable. I love how descriptive this book is. You really get inside Summers' life.. But you know what ruined this for me?
The Romance. The non sense relationship of Caleb and Summer. I don't even know why these two are together. But you know what, I tried to ignore that because the mystery really caught my attention. It's really interesting.. Imagine solving the death of a rockstar legend.
Then this girl came. Val. Part of me is thankful that she showed up because it helps the readers realize how crap of a boyfriend Caleb is. The other part is just plain annoyed. But whoah! There's a twist! And I did not see that coming! You see, it's part of the mystery. There's a reason why this annoying Val showed up after all. But when I found out, it's too late already. My annoyance can't be erased any more and Caleb is still a jerk to me.
Caleb's like a robot guys. Seriously, Summer liking him doesn't make sense.
Anyway, this was disappointing. The Music references and the mystery pulled me in a little but the under developed romance ruined it for me.

We Are the Goldens by Dana Reinhardt
4.0
THIS REVIEW IS ORIGINALLY POSTED ON CRISTINA'S BOOK REVIEWS.
"There’s something I need to tell you. Don’t be mad. Please don’t be mad. I hate it when you’re mad at me."
Layla and Nell are the Goldens, their parents are divorced, they’re only 9 months apart and Nell knows a secret about her sister. Her sister is involve with their art teacher!! THIS IS NOT A SPOILER. It’s written in the Blurb already, the real question here is what will Nell do about this information? Will she tell it? Keep it to herself? Maybe just share it to her bestfriend, Felix?
We Are The Goldens is shorter than I expected. But even though it left me wanting more, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I don’t have a sister, and this book made me long for one. It made me emotional.. I was sad and happy and my chest ached a little after I finished it. I know, my feelings doesn’t really makes sense.. But that’s what I loved about the book. Even though it’s too short for my liking, it made an impact.
The story is written in second person tense. Nell is narrating and me (you) as a reader will feel like you’re Nell. Usually, this bothers me. But I’m totally immersed at Layla’s storytelling that I am willing to overlook it. It’s so easy to be invested which is really surprising for me because it’s usually hard for a First Chapter to caught my attention. But Nell is an awesome character. I can see her as one of my best friends, her words are easy to get into and the way she narrates her story will make you feel for her. Even though we’re not getting into the other character’s head, I feel like I know them all deeply! In other words, the book is well written.
"We are the Goldens, but we aren’t perfect. We’re going to have some hard times, and I wanted to calmly and wisely say some version of this to you: I’m here to help, we’re close, our lives are intertwined, you can trust me."
Does this remind you of Elsa and Anna feels? Because this book really is about sisterhood. Layla, the big sister, has some issues and Nell, the little sis, who loves her unconditionally, struggles to help her. Layla got on my nerves a lot of times, for being the first child and older than Nell, she’s pretty stupid. And she’s kind of cruel. I mean, you can see the love there. You can feel that she loves Nell, but there’s manipulations and she’s making Nell feel guilty a lot of times. There’s no romance here, except maybe the
relationship between Layla and the art professor, but no, let’s not count that. But there IS an awesome friendship here. Awesome and epic that I envy it.
”Is this what it’s like?”
“What?”
“Being a boy. Do you just sit around all the time thinking about naked girls? Isn’t there more to it?”
“Of course there is. We care about things like your intellect and your sense of humor and your capacity for kindness, but we also really like how you look naked.”
Did I mention Felix already? Because you’ll love him. I do believe that we all need a Felix in our life, he’s one of the most awesome character I’ve ever encountered. I love how his relationship with Nell shifted from super-duper-mega-ultra-bestfriend to.. something more.
I feel pretty sad about this review, I feel like I didn’t do the book justice. It’s well written, the characters are real and everything is realistic. From the plot to the relationships to the conclusion. It is short, yes, but it has a story that will really play at your heartstrings and it has a message. I absolutely recommend this. Now go hug your sisters!

First, I would like to pat myself in the back for signing up for this tour. To think that I almost missed this one! Lucky me! Let me tell you, Gathering Water is something that you’ll rarely find this days. The concept is unique and thank the Book Gods because it was executed very well. This is a debut novel, it said.
So I’m telling you right now, this author is someone to watch out for and her book is something to be read and talked about!
Della, who is an orphan, just. found out that she has a living breathing relative existing.. One problem though, she wasn’t really ecstatic about it. Well why would she? They already know that she is alive and in a foster care but they didn’t do a thing about it. And the fact that this relative lives on the other side of the country didn’t help either. But her curiosity for her mother won her over and the next thing she know, she’s in North Carolina! And here starts Della’s kick ass way of uncovering her past and finding out what she’s capable of.
This might seem a little slow for some readers (like me) but I want you to be patient. Honestly, I’m not a patient reader myself (I’m trying to fix that) and i am just so happy that I waited and kept reading. It’s really hard not to anyway, because…
Della is a likeable narrator and heroine. She is descriptive, quirky and strong and wow, i can’t even think of a flaw.. Hmmm. Well she can be bitter sometimes, but totally understandable! But Della isn’t the only character I adored, there’s Cash..
and Dove…
Love these boys a lot! It’s so fun to have a break from dark and mysterious and brooding guys.. What a breath of fresh air! And did I mention that the Romance is absolutely sweet? No drama . No love triangles and hear/read this, NO INSTALOVE. YEP, you read that right!
Now the concept is the one that will completely draw you in. I’ve read a lot of powers before but I don’t think I’ve encountered Gathering Water before. Or air. Or any kind of Gathering. It’s absolutely uniquie and mesmerizing read. It’s intense all the way and I love being inside Dellas head the whole time.
But you know what I want? THE SEQUEL! I NEED IT. LIKE, RIGHT NOW. Although the words like evil and cruel passed in my mind when it comes to the ending, I will wait. Impatiently.

Happenstance by Jamie McGuire
Jamie McGuire actually made a decent set of characters. Wow!
I was one of those raging readers when I finished Beautiful Disaster. There wasn't a single thing that I liked. I don't even know how I endured until the end. Must be my masochistic side.
Now, this one.. It got me intrigued. From the beautiful cover to the interesting blurb. And I never tried Novellas before. So, why not? Anyway, the story revolves around one of the three Erins in this school called Blackwell High. The other 2 are bullies and she's, of course, the bullied.
You know one thing about this story? It's predictable. I'm not even halfway through, I already know what's going to happen. Also, McGuire did a very stupid twist in near end. It's so laughable. I mean, it's not even necessary and it's so obvious that it wasn't well thought. The characters are a big fat MEH. They're decent (if you read BD, you'll know what I mean) but boring. Erin's a robot. Maybe it's her situation that made her like that, but I didn't even connect with her even a bit. Weston, well, you can say that he's a swoon worthy. He's waaaaay better than Travis so extra point for that. But like Erin, he's also a blank character.
All in all, Happenstance is a very boring but OKAY read. *insert yawnface*
