The exposition was amazing, albeit a little long. Getting to know the characters and the setting took up more than half of the book. I think it was necessary though, because the story revolved around a few subjects that are not usually explored nor understood by people outside of the study of language and its histories and other.. touchy issues. The book dances around the latter boldly and quietly, simultaneously. It felt in your face but never directly; like it hit your chin or grazed the top of your head.

"I sincerely believe that books don't live until they're read." Beautiful.

The story of a gullible 19 year old, coerced EASILY into killing people. Using a magic ability that had her shunned and feared for almost all her life, only to unleash it uncontrollably once she fell in love with her abductor. The Abducted as Romance trope but with Chinese elements to give it flair.

As awesome as the Sanderlanche was for this book, I hate Elend.

The anime does the light novel justice by sticking closely to the source material.

The book got.. weird toward the end. Instead of wrapping things up, it took you to a different world with different characters. Yes, it tries to tie you back to the main story, but it's so far out there and at such a strange part of the book that it doesn't work. At least not for me.
