âWhat a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive.â - Sir Walter ScottÂ
After a life-changing event as a teenager, Brooklyn James decides to leave home for what she believes is a better life, not under her parents' thumb.Â
This belief sets off a chain of events that Brooklyn never saw coming and causes repercussions she canât return from, ultimately causing a fall from grace, as her father might have said.Â
This was my first book from Tracy Brown, and all I can say is she didnât have to do us like this. From the beginning, I was hooked and couldnât put the book down. I finished it in less than 24 hours. As I was reading, all I could do was shake my head to see someone repeat the same cycle repeatedly. This book would be suitable for young Black girls ages 15-25. It has a great message that nothing the world offers can satisfy like we think it can. Five stars, hands down!Â
Thank you to St. Martin's Press and Netgalley for the ARC.Â

Did not finish book. Stopped at 61%.

The story really dragged and I didn't care for the setting of sensing two socialites to a training academy for Mafia soldiers. That plot just didn't fit for me.Â
