I struggled very much with the first three chapters even though I loved the narrative voice. I’m glad I pushed through, and I owe that to all the hype. After chapter four, I was immersed and struggled to put it down. All of the reviews about how this book fills people’s hearts are on the money. You’ll see yourself here, no matter who you are or what you’ve been through.

I have to say Talia (sp? I read on audio) referring to penis sizes caught me the fuck off guard, but it was the only weird thing. Well, that and Lucy presenting as way older than 6, but that was adorable and gifted kids exist so I’ll live. As much as I know kids will love this book, I wish every adult in the world would read it. Everything else was perfect.

List of elements the author discusses well
- body image
- fat positivity
- trauma responses
- child abuse
- systemic isms
- ignorance and prejudice
- adolescent masturbation
- social change
- and gender and sexual orientation are visible
