It's cute and is summer-vibes incarnate, but it has an almost surreal vibe that I couldn't wrap my head around. Normally I don't like when books are unnecessarily drawn out, but this feels too short and I would've liked if it was fleshed out more. I empathize with Olive and actually like her a lot, but maybe she should've pumped the breaks a little before hooking up with Rory. They're a good fit for each other - the introverted nerd and the bad boy - whose chemistry is bound in running away from a broken past. Just wish there was more. It feels like it was rushed.
Out of the Hot and Hammered series, this one is my stand out favorite. Rosie didn't leave a noticeable impression during her appearance in Fix Her Up, but I was intrigued after reading the excerpt. This feels like Bailey's most polished and real book to date. The palpable tension in a broken marriage between two people who genuinely love each other was heartbreaking to read, which made their reconciliation even sweeter. I love the discussion about love languages and Rosie's personal touch for Dominic in her new restaurant made me cry.
Docking a star because the humor felt too kitschy at times. I understand that this is technically a rom-com, but it felt out of place here.
This is a book I'd normally be embarrassed to admit I love solely because of the kink, but eff it - I'm in love with this book and I could rave about it for hours. It's so much more than just a kink, so don't let that drive you away (it almost did for me!) I don't recall the last book I read that showcased ADHD to the point of subtly incorporated it into a supporting character and, as someone with Kate's exact inattentive subtype of ADHD, I was blown away. I relate to Kate, again, more than I'd like to admit and was happy to see her progress and stand up for herself in the final act.
The only aspect I didn't care for was the Maria subplot. I could understand the importance behind incorporating it (to showcase Kate's submissive tendencies), but I feel like her relationship with Ty explains it pretty well. Anyways.
Even though I love this book to death, it always leaves me feeling heartbroken and hollow for a few days after finishing despite its happy end, but that's the sign of an incredible book and incredible art.
