I honestly don’t know what to make of this???
this is a book within a book?? bcs we basically follow Rodrigo, “the writer & the narrator” thru the writing process —his way of thinking; all the contemplations and the doubts and how it transformed into words, words into sentences and voila a complete story about the main character, Maćabea

I loved her thoughts and insights into the writing process and related to her—perfectly described!—struggles of creating a character and breathing life into her creations. I loved those parts! The story, however, felt dated to me. Happy centennial to Clarice Lispector, a writer who never got the recognition she deserved; I hope releases like this will expose her poignant work to a broader audience.

Did I just start off reading Lispector on the wrong foot? I don't know, but felt so relieved by the translator's note at the end which said that if the text sounds weird, it's because it IS like that in Portuguese as well, and the better you speak Portuguese, the harder it is to get her. However, reading it in English was not a great choice, same goes for reading her last, most acclaimed and accomplished work. I might need to read it again, but I'm not sure I will. However, she's surprising and I'm indeed curious about some other novels, but not in English, thank you very much.
