Meh, it read as though it was intended to be made into a film. And, for my money, the screen version is the superior.

I love books that are adapted to movies. It always gives you an opportunity to see the world you imagined in your head. This is not my usual type of book but the premise was so good with a very unusual sitation for a teenage book that I couldn't put it down.

Having run out of good audiobooks, I randomly picked up this in my library app, needing some comfort food for my literary soul. The narrator is Tatiana Maslany (of Orphan Black and She Hulk fame), and I can quite honestly say, she blew me away. I enjoyed this version of the book so much more than the original reading. It's almost like I need to hear Katniss' voice and thoughts voiced out loud to make the story come to life in my head.

A pet peeve of mine, also, is when books have songs in them - it always makes me feel so awkward when I've no music to go by, and it inevitably breaks the pace of the book. Tatiana sang the one song in this book, and it brought tears to my eyes. Simple, sweet, tender and at a crucial moment in the story. (Side eyeing The Hunger Games prequel here with its endless amount of songs in it, which fell flat and weren't enjoyable as I tried to hum them into awkward existence inside my head).

Now I've got to wait until December until the next book becomes available...

My favourite character, believe it or not, is the Avox girl. She has this mystery around her, and also this kindness, in spite of all that she's suffered. The bond between Katniss and her, forged by the events in the forest, is compelling; she takes care of Katniss when she doesn't have to. And Katniss somehow needs her, her support when she is at her most desperate. I do hope this will be explored further in the trilogy.

I like Katniss' spunk, and her strength. The way she defies the Capitol, even when she didn't intend to. And the repercussions it might have on her. I'm looking forward to seeing what lies ahead for her. She definitely has the wits to outwit them.

I'm a bit more of a Gale supporter than Peeta. Their history, their friendship is stronger than her bond with Peeta. They might have fought through thick and thin in the Hunger Games, but I'm left with the feeling that it somehow might not last. That it won't hold up to life in District Thirteen. I guess I'll have to read on and see.

Oh, and I'm just as intrigued by District Thirteen. Capitol, I'm on to you.

I wish I had read this book as a teenager. Even now, I enjoyed every moment reading this book. I read the whole book in a single sitting and had a book hangover after finishing this book. Wow! What a fantastic read!

This is still great, and Tatiana Maslany brings so much emotion to the story.
