I enjoyed this read. I will definitely continue the series as it’s light fantasy in my opinion. It’s a nice break from the more complex series. Reminds me of veronica speedwell series in the mystery genre.

tbh listened to the last 30% while high so might need to revisit this... did place a prompt order for the second book though; giving veronica speedwell in a good way 5sure

A book I love from cover to cover, from the first word to the last and beyond. Everything in it is amazing and makes me crave for a lot more, and the author delivers as I've already seen there is a second book and it will be a four book story.
A Library that connects all the worlds and alternative realities and collects the books that bind each reality to it; librarians that act as spies and detectives as well as use a Language that tells things to behave in a way and they do!; alternative London, with zeppelins, and werewolves, and vampires, and Fae. A villain that has been around for thousands of years and a librarian. And also a dragon. This world needs a lot more books to discover it all, but for a first book this one is perfect.
Also, Genevieve Cogman really masters the art of hooking the reader and making her (well, me at least) turn page after page until the book is done. I wanted it to last, so I kept saying stop, and forcing me to stop to read before I discovered there was more.
This book is about books, and about love of books about libraries and fantasies and detective stories. It will really tickle readers who enjoy Jasper Fforde, Ben Aaronovitch or Phillip Pullman. I'm asking for the second, third and if I can fourth book for Christmas!

Loved this! Loved this to no end! You had me at Liberian spy. You had me at alternate universes. You had me at werwolves, vampires, faes, and dragons, oh my. A little bit of magic, a little bit of Doctor Who, a little bit of kick ass heroine and a little bit of uncontrolled chaos.

Throughly enjoyed each character, from the quick-thinking but sometimes insecure Irene, to her fiery sidekick Kai, to the mass list of villains. The battles ("And at that moment the alligators burst into the room."), the intrigue, and the mystery of where is/who has the stolen book kept me glued to the book. A fun and easy read that has me salivating at getting my hands on the next book in the series. A definite must read.

"We want books. We love books. We live with books. Someone who joined the Library just so that they could try to use the Library to benefit their own world...well, I suppose it would be ethical, but it isn't the purpose of the Library." - quote from Irene (p.184)

Be patient with reader, she gets better. At first I found Susan Deurden's style incredibly irritating and it put me off listening the first time I tried. She begins by putting emphasis on every noun. After a while i got into the plot and stopped hearing it unless I focused on it, and by the end of the book she had stopped it. I have just bought the next one, which she also reads so hopefully she will not go back to that style.

The story is engrossing and good fun, so if you don't have a low irritation threshold, I recommend it.

I really enjoyed this! Just enough sarcasm and wry humour - the bits about Belgium & Lichtenstein are hilarious/ plus feisty females / librarians & lost books with plenty steampunk & a reference to cold fusion

The premise for the Invisible Library is such a good one, that it was easy to overlook some typos or unsophisticated writing. I enjoyed this a lot. It was a surprisingly easy and quick read, and I reckon I could have finished it in a single sitting had my time allowed it.
