I loved this story beautiful, heart warming hitting your soul deeply. This is a story that with so much darkness you only get through it in the light.

Possession is the first book in a series of brothers who own an ink shop called Avenues Ink. This is Declan’s story, and he is the middle brother. Raised by a drunk of a father the brothers are forged together by steel. Declan hears voices, dark and angry ones that talk down to him and make him feel worthless. Only thing that helps the voices is his relationship with Paige. After a break up, and a downward spiral.... nine years later she comes back. This is their story.

What did I like? The story was perfectly executed, and if you don’t mind the past and present chapters then you will love this one. The story is based in Salt Lake City... home of the Mormon church, and there are some religious overtones in the book. Paige and Declan are perfect. The story makes these two seem like they were made for each other.

Would I recommend or buy? So two triggers.... religious hints, and past/ present chapters. Some people don’t like that but it’s a beautiful story. I enjoyed it. I recommend and I’d buy a copy.

Thoughts for the author? Not sure where I got this book... author? Freebie? Decent book with a five star rating from me. I’m hoping the next book is in my library.

🎧 Audio Review 🎧

I love AM Johnson's writing style, she really knows how to tell the story! I have listened to another audiobook of hers and loved it too! The book is a little dark and depressing throughout the beginning the book because it deals with serious mental issues.

Declan, poor guy has issues and can't seem to get in front of them. It was very interesting being in his head and hearing what is going on in there. He is a good guy, loyal and does the best he can. Paige comes from a very messed up place that has beaten her down and she really needs to find herself again in the beginning of this book. I'm so glad she found her back bone and got out! Together these two find their happy place. I love how she loved him and understands his condition and just wants to be with him no matter what. The ending was beautiful <3

The narration was PERFECT! That isn't much of a surprise for me but that's because I love both Aaron Shedlock & Tracy Marks. I say this every time but I really love them together in a dual narration. Their tones are not completely opposite and it makes the narration flow so well. Usually a male & female narrator have such extremely different tones and pitch that it can be jarring but these two are so smooth.

I loved this book. I am a sucker for books where the characters are broken and come together whole.

This book, as a whole, was a good read. It wasn't terrible but it also didn't knock my socks (or pants) off. If it snags your attention within the first couple of pages or chapters, it could definitely be read in one sitting. Quick and good read.

My main issue with Possession is Paige's situation. Not just in the first part of the book or even 75% of the book but the book as a WHOLE. Her "position" she was in. Her "predicament". I won't give it all away but the fact that she was still tied to Clark throughout the whole book was an instant turn off for me. Her mind set to be just wreaked of "out of site out of mind". Girl, call yo lawyer!

Also, there was way too much religion in the book for me. There, I said it.

My favorite part of the entire story was Declan. The way A.M. Johnson crafted a character like him and the way she wrote him was very refreshing. The writing on his mental illness was fascination but sadly, Paige fell extremely flat for me. But Liam, Liam was someone I was intrigued with! All that pent up anger and angst, where you get that from, boy?

Like I said at the beginning, if Possession grabs your attention right at the start, it's a quick read. If you can connect to both Paige and Declan at an emotional level, you'll be right at home. I am just sad that I didn't.

This book punched me in my stomach and took the air out of my lungs. It grabbed me by the neck and demanded my full attention. This book took me on a feels roller-coaster that I will not soon forget.

Declan and Paige are two individuals that will take you on such an emotional ride that you better make sure to hold on tight, if not you'll be left to dust. This isn't your typical "love story" where girl-meets-boy and they get married and have kids and live happily ever after. It's so much more. Their story is raw and it's real. It's fist clenching, teeth gritting, heart-in-your-throat, hair pulling, soul consuming, it's electrifying intensity. It's what makes them who they are and its f***ing beautiful.

I got lost in this story. The words written on each page bursted with realism. This book makes you think, most of all it makes you feel all they way to your bones. This book hurts, and it makes you cry. This book is an experience you must take. When you read the final words, you will clutch this book so tightly as tears roll down your cheeks and you will be forever grateful for Declan and Paige.

A.M. Johnson, there are not enough words to express how thankful I am for this beautiful journey you took me on. This book was extraordinary. Declan and Paige will forever hold a place in my heart.

READ! THIS! BOOK! Let Declan and Paige paint their way to your heart. Take their hand and let them guide you through their story. It's ok, trust in them. Fall in love with Declan and Paige.

I’m not sure I can express how well written, how much emotion is expressed in each page of this book. This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I know it won’t be my last. This book has all the feels and then some! I love second chance romances, this one is so much more. This deals with real life issues, one may be too much for some readers but it’s done so tastefully I think whatever your feelings are you could read it.
This story takes you from two high school sweethearts that love and lost through their 20’s and life apart, to a chance at reconnecting years later. I found myself laughing and then crying with these characters. The supporting characters are just as strong and hopefully we will hear more about Declan’s brothers.

4,5 stars for this beautiful story.
This was my first book by A.M. Johnson, and I loved it.

The only thing that felt rushed through the story was in my opinion Paige's background and some of the religious aspects, but overall this is fiction, so the religious aspect I don't dwell much on. It felt rushed that Paige had all this guilt and then left and got married. Okay her parents must've forced her you know, but we just didn't hear much about it. And it felt like Declan was so mad at her, but suddenly turned a 180 and figured out that he had some guilt too. That whole issue felt a bit rushed and I wanted more of that. But anyways...

Declan, my beautiful, vulnerable, sweet, strong but scarred, Declan. I felt almost every emotion that went through Declan's mind. His insecurities, his faults, his guilt and that voice driving him crazy. I felt them, bc either way if you have a mental illness or not, you always have that self-doubt.
Possession was also beautiful bc it grasped the storyline of a person with a mental illness, how hard it actually can me and that everything isn't as it seems, which was written in a good and understandable way.

Declan and Paige struggled, but their love for each other outshined the demons lurking in the dark of their minds and lives.

So many scenes were so emotional and touching that I can't possibly list them all.
I'd just say that you have to read the book yourself!

Declan and Paige's story is heartbreaking and inspirational at the same time. Their love is unique and powerful, but not immune to some unfortunate circumstances and decisions. However, the physical distance of 9 years has done nothing to quench the intensity of their feelings, the true love, passion, understanding and acceptance of the deepest, darkest demons that plague them both. The second chance that they've been given leads them to rediscovering each other but also rediscovering themselves, finding their own qualities and strengths, falling in love with the new, grown up version of each other but also falling in love with themselves.

Two broken souls the struggles they have pull at your heart. I liked how the author addressed mental illness, religion ect in a reasonable way.
