Cooke was a hell of an artist and I have to give it up for his love of noir. But “Ego” is the showstopper in this collection even if it doesn’t quite stick the landing. But I like that the collection is bookended by two stories where Batman wrestles with what it means to keep being Batman. However, I was left a little cold by “Selina’s Big Score” which felt more like a Sin City riff than a good Catwoman story.

I loved the art style throughout the book. It reminded me a lot of the Batman animated series that I watched in the 90s.

The various stories were quite good as well, in particular the Catwoman one. It was very well thought out and had good characterisation.

Darwyn Cooke's artwork is mesmerizing, at once reminiscent of the yesteryears and modern at the same time. Each panel and page could very well be posters on their own.
The Selina Kyle story is fantastic as well; a fast moving crime caper that's darker than it would seem at first.
Overall, a fantastic collection, one which only serves to remind us that Darwyn Cooke was taken away from us far too soon.

Uma selecção de histórias do mesmo autor, a meu ver de qualidade bastante mista, a melhor história acaba por ser a da Catwoman e não do Batman.

I really like Cooke's Parker series, and apparently he has been putting hints of it in his stories for awhile. This book has a story titles Selian's Big Score, and has nothing do with Selina as Catwoman, but reads just like a Parker story. He even used the name Stark as a character.

This book was brought to my attention after the announcement last year of the new Batman movie. The director, Matt Reeves, had mentioned that Ego was one of the comic book inspirations for the film. This book collects that story from the late great, Darwyn Cooke, as well as some other stories he wrote and some that he also did the artwork for. Ego was a great read showing us the two splits of Batman. The Batman and Bruce Wayne. It tackles the identity crisis between the two and who truly is the real persona. Cooke does it with very clever story telling. You then get a pretty fun Catwoman story and some other short stories featuring the caped crusader. I really like the story 'Deja Vu' with artwork by Bruce Timm and obviously written by Cooke. It kinda has an old school horror method of story telling. All around it's a very fun read. I read this digitally but I am for sure picking up this up for the stunning artwork and fun stories.
