I honestly don’t understand how Drew ever thought his parents were going to change. Even strangers could see they were moving mad. They were very stupid especially Ellie. And let me say this: it’s one thing to hear that someone is gay, but it’s a whole other thing to witness it. Ellie always knew her brother was gay she’d heard it, she accepted it in theory but she’d never actually seen him with a partner, never witnessed that part of his life. And the way she acted? Yeah, it showed.
But honestly, this story wasn’t about them and thank God, because I didn’t care about them one bit.

This was about Ezra, Drew, and Bas and oh my God, I loved them. I loved their individuality, their dynamic, the way they met, everything. Their meet-cute was perfect. The way each of them was written felt so intentional and vivid. Reading about them just made me feel good. The quality time, the soft moments it all worked so beautifully.

Talking about Bas being ace was done in such a thoughtful, gentle way. I really appreciated that sex wasn’t a major focus in the story it made sense, and it was written so naturally.

And the communication? Yes. Sure, Bas had his habit of running when things got hard, but they didn’t leave it hanging they talked. And let me just say: Ezra was the glue. He was the reason things kept moving. He was the one holding them together, the one making sure they worked through things, the one easing tension when it got heavy. Without Ezra, it wouldn’t have worked.

You might start reading and wonder why Ezra is even there when Drew and Bas seem so soft and in sync on their own but you’ll see. They needed Ezra. He balanced everything. He grounded them.

This MMM relationship gave me so much joy. The writing was smooth, the emotions hit, and everything just clicked.
One and done. I loved it.

I loved this book so much. If you’re looking for an action-packed, fast-moving plot, this ain’t it. Instead, it’s a character-driven novel of three men finding happiness together…sometimes despite themselves.

Ezra comes from a rough background, going to community college and trying to build a better life for himself after moving away from his often-jailed father and brothers. Bas and Drew are fortunate enough to have grown up in well-to-do households and are now successful on their own, Bas as a musician and producer, Drew as a sports lawyer. The two have known each other since childhood, and each carries an seemingly-unrequited love for the other. This is further complicated by the fact that Bas is ace (asexual).

When the three of them come together, each finds something in the other two that fulfills them, and they slowly, haltingly build a life together. The barriers are clear – Ezra’s unwillingness to trust anyone but himself, Bas’ belief that he can’t bring anything to a relationship, and Drew’s struggle to find acceptance with his homophobic family. Seeing these three navigate these obstacles to a happily ever after is wonderful, and made me smile a lot (and tear up a few times).

As a gay grey-asexual man, I can fully sympathize with Bas’ worries, and seeing him find happiness meant a lot to me. I really appreciated that Prescott explains (and shows) asexuality in a thoughtful way, and no one tries to “fix” Bas, nor does he suddenly discover he isn’t ace. It’s part of who he is, and that is respected.

If I have any complaint, it’s that I’d like a little more character development with Ezra. Also, for all that the book takes place in Boston, there’s not much interaction with the city (aside from the weather) to give it a sense of place. These nitpicks aside, I found this to be a really wonderful book, and highly recommend it!

I listened to the audiobook, performed by John Solo. His work here is excellent, with good differentiation between character voices, great pacing of the narration, and an ability to express feelings of anger, desperation, hope, and love to the reader. This is another solid performance from Solo.

This book is essentially a warm hug. The angst and hurt/comfort vibes that I’ve come to expect from Prescott are definitely still present, but in Inevitable it’s more the dull ache of pain that is already healing instead of the sharp stabbing of fresh wounds.

Watching Drew, Bas, and Ezra navigate their emotions and circumstances is cozy and soothing, even when they face hardships. As an outsider it’s so easy to see where each character’s strengths and weaknesses lie and how they fit together. And of course the banter is delicious and clever.

I only slightly wish there had been more spicy scenes, but that’s is because I’m greedy and couldn’t get enough of their dynamic, and not because the story is missing them.

If you’re looking for a low(ish) angst, comforting, and thoughtful read, I highly recommend giving this book a try.

This read was everything. It will definitely be a go to reread for me. I loved Bas, Ezra & Drew, they will forever be in my heart. Drew and Bas have been best friends forever and while Drew and Bas love each other dearly, Bas doesn't believe it would ever work between them, as he is asexual, and just does not see that working. So, Drew picks up one-night stands and pines for his BF super hard. When he meets Ezra it is different, but he does not think he will see him again. Even Bas knows it is different. Well they do cross paths and Ezra then becomes their roommate. Starts out just as friends and then it turns into the inevitable relationship it was always meant to be with all three of them. I just loved how they came together and how they all loved each other so much. They just fit and it was beautiful and heartwarming. A definite must read with all the feels.
