** spoiler alert ** Markus Zusak remains one of my favorite writers.
That moment when Eddie dances with Audrey...it always makes me cry. Her of the yellow hair, him who just holds her. It is beautiful and understated.

I really loved reading this. Ed is a great character and the little 'stories' he gets involved in are very moving. Markus Zusak is really good at writing emotionally gripping stuff without getting to dramatic.
About the ending...
One big difference with The book thief (the only other book by Zusak that I read) is that I found the characters of The book thief so realistic and touching, while in I am the messenger I had some trouble with liking Ritchie and Audrey, because you don't really get to know them. Audrey just seemed... a bit boring. But in the end, of course, Ed is the main character and that makes everything okay because Ed was just amazing.
About the ending...
Spoiler
I was a bit shocked at first, but I really liked how meta the message turned out to be. Also because this book actually did teach me things about the people I know and about myself. Ed was a great message, and Zusak is a great messenger. One big difference with The book thief (the only other book by Zusak that I read) is that I found the characters of The book thief so realistic and touching, while in I am the messenger I had some trouble with liking Ritchie and Audrey, because you don't really get to know them. I enjoy this writer's style, and found the plot intriguing. It left some unanswered questions for me, though: why so much violence? I didn't love the ending. It didn't feel settled enough.

I really liked this book for about the last 80-100 pages. It took me a while to get into it, but once I did I enjoyed the story and the message.

I was very very conflicted about the rating, because it was enjoyable. I liked it but i had problems with it.
And it wasn't bad but it didn't blow me away tho.
Even that the ending is a shocker i have to tell you that, you will not freaking not expect the ending!, or maybe it's the twist!
The problems i had with it
Is definitely that it fell out on me on part 2 but it picked up again by the middle of part 3
The intro is perfectly done and brilliant and so so so funny. I expected the whole book would be as funny but it didn't. It became too serious after 60 pages in and i was ok with that but i missed the brilliant comedy zusack has and i wished it lasted through the whole book
I didn't get the ending even though i didn't expected it. I swear i didn't and it felt so random to me somehow
I loved the messages, the people, and the missions he had but i didn't get all of them much
And i didn't get why them? And i hated the whole mission about the raping husband even the truth about it in the end disgusted me and i was what the freaking hell!
I can't get my mind on the whole problems i had with it, but it was an ok book better than many many books we read these days and delivers us a unique message too
Some friend here on GR said that markus zusack is like ed Kennedy in a way, deliver us messages in his books. And i so so think that is totally right!
I love that about him.
