Young and astute fine dining restaurant cook works hard. Succeeds. Is tired. Not a new story.

Picked this up by chance and finished it in an hour during my shift. I’m in love with the vibrant imagery, it was so immersive and tangible. I think this book found me at the right time; the theme of “finding your true calling” really resonated with me, as well as the idea that you shouldn’t settle somewhere you aren’t truly happy. Overall a very reflective and refreshing read.

Loved the description of the dishes prepared, and I have more respect for chefs after reading this, but apart from those, I'm not sure what the point was.

I was wondering if Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto had this book somewhere on the corner, on the bottom of the book stack, on the dusted floor of his apartment or maybe he is not into reading but Carmy is Mauro kinnie. I am sure of it. Half kinnie not a whole kinnie. In his staggering mind, Mauro planted and generously watered the fig tree (spiel in ideology form from The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath), never had a permanent team—he brought himself to the quite, individualism-kitchen-environment—eventually, never left the restaurant. Carmy, same, never left his restaurant, but we can say he’s successful on implementing family discreet work system and like to yell “Yes, Chef!”.

p.s: too many deep lore of my media fixations here.
