Could not put it down. A low level fantasy master-slave romance is a very polarising trope that I love as I think it makes for a very interesting dynamic. This one was sweet in parts, hot in others and angst abound. Tam and the master, Tam and Kai, the master and Kai, each had different relationship linked to thier characterization which was unravelled so well.

welcome to another round of 'i like to read books meant for a specific niche and then get mad when they dont have literary aspects i like'

so like there really isnt anything i liked about this. bad characterization, literally no plot until the last two chapters, boring characters.
like concept aside it just Isn't Good

but like the concept?? potential for something fun. one guys a slave and has been one all his life, sent out to buy another slave who has been one for like not long. wow!!!!! cue moral and ethical talks about why its bad? new slave convinces old that this life is not all there is in the world and really isnt good? they escape and go on fun adventures?
nah

'being a slave is bad!!!!'
'hm......its actually not, look, we have a pool'
'o shit ur right this is great'

cue my ass rolling my eyes for the last 40% of the book

like its whatever, it was free, but like why do i do this to myself

I found that the part of the book with the most plot was the very end, most of it was either sex or thinking about sex. I should have seen this coming, with two main characters being sex slaves, but hoped for more depth. I found it odd that it seemed all of a sudden that Kai liked Master, like acknowledging that someone is pleasing to the eyes is vastly different to being in love. It would have been nice to see someone else’s POV, since Tam was very simple minded: again, always thinking about sex, which makes sense since he’s been a sex slave for so long, but still. It seems like volume 2 is in Kai’s POV though, which is nice. There’s some homophobia in this book, but people turn a blind eye to sex slaves so they didn’t see that discrimination while at Master’s home.
(LGBTQ+ rep: gay, MlMlM relationship? (Idk if it’s how this is written, but the three men seemed to be together by the end, even if technically Master “doesn’t love them like that” (as if lol) )

Ah, where to start? This book was not for me. The writing was just ok, but I was not a fan of the MC. That's a deal breaker. If it could have been just about Kai, I might have been ok. The nicest thing about this book is that it was free.

You see, I really hated Tam. It ruined the entire story for me. I hate weak characters, and I hate whiners. The end. 1 1/2 stars and no book 2 in my immediate future.

Tam is a sweetheart and appears a gentle, sensitive soul. His love of his master is lovely. So passionate and loyal.

This book... I was excited to read it when I first picked it up but I didn't expect to love it nearly as much as I did. The writing! That writing was some of the most poetic writing I have read in a while. I found myself highlighting so many phrases and quotes.

I really respected this book too, I love when LGBT books have original plots past things like coming out. The strange world with the two Suns, the war, the way everything worked was intricate. And the desert setting mixed with the slaves and war reminded me of Danys storyline in book one of the Game of Thrones.

I thought that Tam and Kai's love story was so beautiful and in depth that I shipped it from the first chapter. But I was never fully sure how to feel about the Master. Sure there was some steamy scenes with him but sometimes it felt like he was a father figure... Also I didn't really think that Kai would cave and end up sleeping with him. I guess it was because I'm not used to polyamorous relationships so I kind of wanted it to just be Kai and Tam. Or at least just Tam being conflicted about which one he wants to be with more.

I'll be honest, this is one of those books that tends to have a sex scene every other chapter at least (so I guess use your discretion before picking up)

I don't think that the Masters dead and of course, I hated that this book decided to do the same stupid abrupt, open ended, cliffhanger ending that most ebooks tend to do.

Aside from all of that though I loved this book and am excited to eventually pick up the rest.
