On Solid Ground by Melissa Collins has one of my all-time favorite couples in it, so when I heard Beck and Dax were getting another book, I may have screamed a little. Or a lot. At the end of On Solid Ground, Beck, Dax and Violet were a family and happy, but we didn't get to see the rest of their story. We needed the rest of their story! Dax is having nightmares again and they haven't set a date for the wedding. Beck and Dax both feel they are not connecting, but they aren't blaming each other. They are in this together and they both have to fix it. Life gets in the way and they need to find their way back to their happiness. Dax has to realize his past can't continue to define him. He needs to move into the future with the love of his life and their daughter. Beck's past also comes back to haunt him and together they have a lot of decisions to make. Will they get married? They know they want forever, but does that commitment change the way they feel? Do they want to grow their family? Where are their careers taking them? I can't even express how much I love Dax and Beck. Their love story is perfect, real, hot, sweet and loving. Violet is hilarious and I love her sassy mouth. I need to start a swear/sarcasm jar in my house! I would read fifty books about this family. These characters are so real to me that they are part of my soul. Dax and Beck aren't just a loving, sexy couple. They are the perfect blended family, along with Chloe, their friends and family.

"Because you're my home. My forever. I've never been more solidified in my life than right here, right now with you and our sugar pop."

"Maybe we should make her drop a buck into the swear jar every time she says fine," I suggest.
"We'd be fucking millionaires."
"Well, between her fines and your fucks, you're not far off."
Rolling his eyes, Beck ignore my comment, grumbling a quiet "fuck" under his breath.
As I walk toward the bathroom to wash away the sweat and grime from my morning run, I say "Pay up, Mr. Fucksalot."

I find it kind of difficult to read books after book one has already ended in what we thought was their HEA. Melissa Collins does Dax and Beck well with this addition to their story. So much love, steam, angst and laughter are found in between the pages of On Higher Ground. The only negative I had is that I kind of wanted more from Micah and his struggles. That story kind of felt unfinished to me but otherwise I really loved this one!

Knowing I signed up for a review for On Higher Ground, I hurried and read On Solid Ground, the first book in this series, which had been sitting on my Kindle for a few months. I don't know why I didn't read it earlier because I really liked it. The ARC was sent to me the day I finished book one so I was lucky enough to jump right into book two, which I also really liked. Dax and Beck are such a good couple, they seem like real people with such great character flaws (you know we all have them). I loved how Ms. Collins wrote a not so perfect couple but a couple who know they have a relationship that needs work daily to keep it going. They both want so much from each other, but at the same time know they have flaws that need to be addressed on their own and with each other. From PTSD and past family issues this is a very good book that deals with every day situations. The love pours out of these two men and the relationship they have with their daughter is fantastic.

Just like book 1, On Higher Ground has Dax and Beck going through several ups and downs as they find their footing individually and together in their relationship. They have a bit of a rough go of it as they try to take their relationship to the next level but they work well together to get through their struggles.

Dax is still struggling to get through the PTSD although the point of the nightmares has changed a bit. His work at the VA and with the service dogs leads him to a couple of major epiphanies which helps him get through a couple of major low times. He pretty much comes full circle by the end and is stronger than ever.

Beck’s struggles still have to do with his family. We discover his life as a child was pretty miserable as more details are uncovered. We see him go alpha and possessive with Dax which was pretty hot. He becomes a more solid rock for Dax to lean on and also realizes how much he needs Dax to get through some of his issues.

It seems like there might be a follow up story with a side character as there are still some unanswered questions with him. That would be another emotional read as there is some major tension with him.

This is a great continuation of their story and a must read if you loved book 1 as I did.

On Higher Ground (On Solid Ground #2) by Melissa Collins – This is on kindle unlimited. If any story ever needed to be a duology, it is this one! Beck and Dax just had too much to work through to cram into one book. That ending was the sweetest thing! Happy Reading!

3.9 stars.

I felt like this book wasn't necessary but it was a good addition. I didn't mind at all and I enjoyed this Duology.

I really want to read the next book in the series but that's about another character.

Nice follow up

There's a little bit of drama in this but what it mostly is, is one long look into Dax and Beck's happy ever after.
There's loads of hot sex in this one though which goes some way to the lack of much of a real plot.
That's not a criticism, sometimes it's nice to read about the everyday niceness of a romantic relationship which works.
