I do NOT give out 5 stars to books very easily. But when I do its for books like this. That remind me why I love reading.

So, if you are a fan of Stranger Things (like myself) and are missing and can not fathom having to wait, god only knows how long it is going to be until the next season comes out, then you need to read When the Sky Fell on Splendor.

You will immediately fall in love with these crazy kids that seem like they are always up to no good. Now when I say kids I don’t mean they are 10 year olds, the characters in this story are teenagers how drive around and make silly videos for their YouTube channel (you’ll know more once you read). This book made me laugh, made me cry (which I haven’t for book in a LONG time) and reminded once again why I love stories so much.

Also, Emily Henry does not get enough credit for her back list books. Justice for When the Sky Fell on Splendor and A Million Junes.

I wanted this book to be so much better than it was, which is an ultimate shame. I was really looking forward to it since it gave me so many Super 8 vibes, which was an amazing film and I love it so much. Anyway, I know I shouldn't compare but here I was comparing.

The characters are interesting, apart from Franny the main character. She's pretty vanilla to be honest, but that's my own opinion, you guys might feel differently. The most interesting characters are Nick and Mark. The story is very sad and deals with a number of different issues, but the way its written just isn't my cup of tea. The friendships are amazing. But, descriptions are either lacking or there's too much. And, so much happens in such a short space of time. In my opinion the book just seems kind of jumbled (a bit like this review - I'm sorry). That's why I rated this book 3 stars, which is disappointing as this was an anticipated book of mine.

This was fine. I love Emily Henry books and just assumed I’d like this one too, that’s my bad. I should have read the book description first, as this is not something I would normally read. This just fell flat for me compared to her other books.
Spoiler The ending kind of threw me but also left more questions for me. I don’t understand what Wayne did that he got taken away by the FBI. Or why the FBI were chasing kids, or why they would care about a “ghost spirit”. It just doesn’t make sense to me.

The narrator was good, though her male accents did bother me.

This book's plot really drags, and its ensemble cast has several characters who are really annoying teenagers. Wouldn't recommend for the sci-fi because it is paper thin and doesn't do much for the story, which is all about grief and loss. The writing doesn't have the humor and charm of all of Emily Henry's other books. Just a bunch of neglected and traumatized kids being neglected and traumatized without much resolution at the end.
