I wanted to like this, but there was just so much that just wasn't necessary? Again, like the first book, I it ran really slow and just added all this lengthy dialogue. A lot of it just seemed like filler, random plot lines -that didn't amount to much btw- thrown in. The final third of this book was amazing though! It redeemed a lot of what was bothering me, but it didn't really help the fact that I had to go through 400 pages to get to the heart of the story. We did have a lot of character development with characters we didn't get enough of in City of Brass, and I really appreciate that. Made me care more for the characters and the relationships they all had. Even though this series is a mix of feelings for me, I probably will pick up the final book. I just need to find out what happens after all the mess that happened in the final act.

Again, like in the first book, Nahri isn't shown much using the talents she acquired in her childhood.
The characters don't learn, say that they won't tell anyone and the next second they do.
Spoiler Why is Nahri so surprised Fiza doesn't believe her? Like? It is unbelievable what you are telling and you are not really encouraging trusting relationships.

Too much talking too little action.
