Really enjoyed the audible version of this with Armitage reading. The plot line was twisty with unexpected turns and definitely sad in places but would recommend.

Excellent book, well written, good story, and the characters are very relatable.

This isn't the regular Jackman and Evans investigation. While Rowan and Marie are working on a cold case, this story focuses on another Detective, Carter who is working a stalking case but wants to be put on the cold case. Carter sees dead people, not just any dead people but his 4 friends who all dies in a plane crash where he was the only survivor. He feels like he needs to complete certain tasks do his friends can rest. The first 3 are easy but the last task has to do with the cold case Jackman is working .
As usual, the story is fast paced, exciting and I didn't see the end coming the way it did.
Richard Armitage does an amazing job not only with the narration but with the specific accents required for the story location. I look forward to any Joy Ellis/ Richard Armitage collaborations.

Less enjoyable than the first two books in this series. I found my mind wandering quite a few times.

I love this series; this was my least favourite of the 4 (so far). Weak start -- I wondered if Ellis had someone else writing for her, it was that strange. Boring and totally different format (ghost story instead of a compelling detective story). I think there's just too much trying to happen in this novel, for it to hang together. Thankfully I chose the audiobook version and Richard Armitage always holds my attention and makes the key characters (Jackman, Evans, and a few other cops) my best friends for the duration. That's why it's 3 stars.

The writing is increasingly poor and the plot is unbearably full of holes. So many unbelievable things, all the "plot twists" were telegraphed ahead, and everything falls flat.

Even the opening scene of the plane accident in which one of the main characters loses his 4 best mates, which should be daunting and gripping, is mostly boring.

Everybody's reactions are bizarre, there are too many convenient reveals/technological advances, some scenes are rushed as if it was nothing whereas important things happen in them, it all feels lazy.

And what point on earth did it serve that the protagonist end up having a brain lesion rather than merely psychological damage
