From the cover I expected a cute queer romance. And it was, but it was also a book about religious trauma and what its like to be gay and in the church. I loved that you got that story from the perspective of someone who is bi but not in the church and is trying to be with someone who is gay and in the church. It really helped the reader to see each side. To see how extreme the church can sound to someone on the outside, but also show what it's like to be the person in the church who is struggling.

As someone who grew up in the church and struggles with religious trauma, it made me appreciate and enjoy this book more!

I related so much to this main character specifically in his relationship with religion. While I don’t live in Utah, I live in a heavily religiously saturated region where I myself am not religious. Tanner did a great job of not really understanding why the Mormons around him were so enthusiastic, yet remaining respectful, and I saw so much of myself in him. This was a cute story with relatable characters and is being published at the perfect time.

My heart aches for this book.
The story of Tanner and Sebastian touched me so deeply, even tho I’m not religious and come from a family accepting of my sexuality. I know the feeling of wanting who you can’t have, the feeling of the world turning against you by throwing all of the obstacles in your way. I think a lot of us does.

I only cried in the end of this book, but my heart broke and was put together over and over while reading it.

I loved the writing style, and honestly can’t say a bad thing about this book. This book goes straight to my almost favorites books - I can’t put a finger on why it wouldn’t be a top fave but I’ll update you here if I ever figure it out, hahah

Just utterly phenomenal. I related to Tanner so hard, both with the bisexuality and feeling out of my depth with religious people who "truly believe in it." There were lines that just hit me and never before have I just wanted to highlight lines and passages of a book.

Spoiler AND THEN AT THE END when you realize the whole time that you've actually been reading Tanner's book and the chapter headings switch to show that it's gone form "chapter X" to "who's perspective it is" cause you're out of Tanner's book and into what's "really" happening. Just on that meta level I almost screamed.

I also devoured this book, so that always means something good.

Y me enojé xD.

“This is how we reveal ourselves: these tiny flashes of discomfort, the reactions we can’t hide.”

“His smile ruins me.”

“I don’t actually care if you break my heart, Sebastian. I went into this knowing it could happen and I gave it to you anyway. But I don’t want you to break your own. You have so much space in your heart for your church, but does it have space for you?”
