This was hard to rate because the world building, politics and action scenes were first-class. The author does an excellent job of making you feel like you're in the gallery with Morgan, watching all of the trials.

The downfall to all of this is Morgan herself. It was incredibly irritating how much of her POV is complaining about Draven and fighting their relationship. She's bizarrely immature about it all and it made me want to stop reading a few times. The action scenes and other characters kept bringing me back, though.

The spice is okay? I mean, it happens and it's descriptive, but it doesn't seem like anything either of them would say, if that makes any sense. But if you're looking for it, it's there.

I am looking forward to the next book after that cliffhanger and epilogue, however.

It’s hard to even know where to start. This book was absolutely wonderful sequel! Our story picks up in a new realm, when Morgan awakens to memories of devastating truths, in a bed that is not even hers, and in an unknown land after Morgan almost lost her life thanks to the treachery of her now burnt to ash ex-boyfriend. Morgan must figure out how to move forward and defeat her enemies... All with the help of her "kidnapper" Kairos Draven. The same person who is now out as a Siabra Prince and whisked Morgan away to his kingdom to save her life.

There were many plot twists that made it really hard for me to put it down. As a second book in a series, this was extremely well (I’m always wary of second books)! There are new character additions, lots of banter (my favorite!), a fight to the death competition (also a favorite trope of mine), and lastly it ends with a huge cliffhanger that will make you automatically preorder the next book! It’s easy how this book was right up my alley.

Having just finished the book moments ago, first thoughts are that I need book 3 pronto. Boleyn does a great job writing an action packed stories that end with you on the edge of your seat…I mean the cliffhangers. The world building was great, the descriptions helped make visualizing this story rather easy—especially because it’s a fae fantasy story containing places and species unique to this universe. The characters are diverse and easy to like. I’m obsessed with Draven and am absolutely gutted every time Morgan thinks he’s lying/faking/being disingenuous. The plot twists are fun and the series has been fun to read too.

Overall I would rate this book a 4.5/5 (rounded up to 5/5). I would recommend this to romantasy fans.

Thanks to NetGalley and the Publishers for this ARC.

A Gripping Sequel with Evolving Characters

Wow, Court of Claws by Briar Boleyn was such an exciting ride, continuing the thrilling journey that started in Queen of Roses. Thanks to all the new adventures and obstacles the characters faced, it's like the story never lost its momentum. I loved Draven in this book. He's come such a long way from the first one, and I couldn't help but feel a strong connection with him. Learning about his tragic past and how he's managed to stay noble despite all the hardships was really touching. It added a lot of depth to his character, making him even more fascinating.

However, I have to admit, I had mixed feelings about Morgan in this sequel. In the first half of the book, she regressed both in maturity and comprehension, and treated Draven terribly, even though he did everything to save her. It was frustrating to see her behave like that, but thankfully, things got better in the second half. Her growth and maturity during her adventures in Draven's Kingdom and the trials of the Blood Rite gave me hope that she'll continue to evolve in the next book.

The story itself was engaging and the Kingdom felt rich and detailed, almost like I could picture myself right there with the characters. It definitely added to the immersive experience, and I loved that.

Overall, Court of Claws was a good read, building upon the foundation set by the first book. Despite my disappointment with Morgan's behavior at times, the captivating plot and Draven's character development kept me hooked till the end. I'm already looking forward to the next book in the series, hoping to see more growth and forgiveness between Morgan and Draven. Briar Boleyn has done an excellent job crafting a captivating sequel that leaves me excited for more adventures in this enchanting world.
