Ok. So I judged this book by its cover so hard and it has been sitting in my TBR for over a year - it was given to me by a friend and I’ve just been letting it sit.

What finally got me to read it was that the spinner app I have to tell me my next read off my TBR landed on this one. I was still dragging my feet but then I finally read the back and realized that it took place in Utah and I am a sucker for books that take places I have been and/or live/lived. Lol. I’m a simple girl.

So I read the description and I’m like ok, this is a chill book - thought it was YA, but saw it was contemporary romance - ok cool - this will probably be 2/3 pepper, probably closed door or mild spice. No big deal. A cutie lil romance is never a bad thing in my book.

Well, color me surprised when I was listening to the book one night minding my business and playing my game as I usually do while listening and boom our main characters are getting hit and heavy in a tent in the middle of Moab. They have to share. Rent due to another mishap (yeah I know I should have seen it coming after that point, but sometimes I’m not that smart lol)

I digress. Lol. I actually really liked the plot - I hate the third act breakup but that’s romance for you and honestly that last part thee me, but there was a sound ending and I’m happy with how it ended.

4 stars, 3 peppers.

I liked the main character but every conflict in the plot felt WAY too predictable and not in a comforting way, more in a omg now I have to wait to get to the reveal I already know is going to happen. Also hated the ending. I liked all the national park descriptions but overall plot was not engaging and the main characters didn’t have enough chemistry.

3.5 Probably the best one by Sarah Smith. I guess the reality of fighting and owning up to mistakes while falling in love was just too real for my taste. I want the rose colored glasses love story with one small misunderstanding at the most.

i’m very tired of books very obviously still in their first draft phase getting published. because there’s absolutely no way this was a written, finalized, edited, proof read bundle of pages: nothing made sense, nothing worked together, the plot was flimsy, shallow and almost comically predictable. you know how sometimes you know not even an ounce of thought went inside a book? that.
i tried. so bad. to like this book. the cover is so pretty and i can always make myself biased towards romance books, but god. not a single thing was working out here. (1.5 stars but only because i’m being extra nice).

I wish I had DNFed this book. It’s not that it was boring, which it was, it’s that it was lazy. It relied too heavily on stereotypes and the main character couldn’t help but make herself a victim. Don’t waste your time on this book.
