I know I read this book before, but I don't know why I didn't record it. Overall it was not that memorable, I only remembered certain parts. The first half was pretty good, but I don't love the characters. Nor do I believe the romance between Tris and Four. I will read the second one just to see whether it improves. The series has to be popular for a reason.

It's been a long time since I've just had to start and finish a book in a single evening - FANTASTIC!!

I wish I could give this book 5 stars, but it just wasn't quite there for some reason... I really liked it though, and recommend it :-)

Although this combines two styles I don't like much (first person pov and present tense) I enjoyed reading this.

Obviously this was a read of the type "saw the movie, wanted to read the book" so I basically knew what was going on, but there were quite a few instances where the movie is divergent from the book (get it? :D). However, I have to say that I felt like the way things were handled in the movie made much more sense?
SpoilerLike Tris' private training with Four, and him coaching her on how to not manipulate simulations but rather go about solving them like a Dauntless would.
idk, I suppose I'll rewatch the movie and then get back to this.

This is a good example of a conventional YA novel. The young girl who is strong and pretty even though she doesn't know it, the boy who guides her in many ways and becomes her love interest, the shadowy talks in the night that hint at bigger problems, etc.

I liked it, but I think The Hunger Games did everything this book did and did them better. There wasn't enough about the world to catch my interest and a little too much on the "My body felt like electricity every time he touched my hand" type of romance. This is probably appealing to teenagers but to me it felt like...well, yeah, teenagers.

Anyway, I liked the training and the shift from that to a plot. Overall, it was a fast and enjoyable read but nothing that I would consider groundbreaking in the way of YA literature or writing in general.
