This was such a fun book! You had a single parent, a nanny, a rich human, some groveling, some forced proximity. What more could you have wanted from a book, honestly.

It was good. I liked reading it, it wasn’t too frustrating, it didn’t have any annoying characters... but I wasn’t all that invested in the romance.

Loooved it. Loooved the girls and the antics at they got to. I liked it better than the first one! I love the girls obsession with death lol

I really enjoy Tessa Dare's sense of humor. I snort-laughed my way through much of this book, which is sweet, warm, and sexy, although not as 🔥🔥 as the other books I have read in this series (nothing much happens until almost halfway through the book). I didn't like Alex quite as much as Penny ("The Wallflower Wager") or Emma ("The Duchess Deal"), but she is still a really fun heroine - smart, honest, and with a heart of gold. (Ok, all of the Tessa Dare heroines I have read are like that, actually...). The most unique part of this book is the inclusion of the two children and their antics, which is what precipitated much of the humor (daily doll funerals, amirite?). I read "The Governess Game" in a day, and it was frivolous and enjoyable and exactly the kind of happy, mindless entertainment I needed after a stressful week at work.

I don't know why, but this second volume of Girl Meets Duke just lacked a certain spark for me. I wanted to enjoy the romance, but I found the characters to be just a little underdeveloped, a collection of typical romance tropes with some added features rather than believable protagonists. I liked the secondary characters best, but their storylines were not quite enough to keep me engaged.

Oddly enough, I feel like the novel made the same mistake the male protagonist did, diving into physical intimacy to substitute for emotion. The story over-relied on sexual attraction to sell the pairing, but the chemistry just didn't quite work well enough for me to make it believable.

More of the same from Tessa Dare, so I was happy with it. Nothing particularly spectacular made this one stand out from the rest, but still a solid 4 stars
