A must read! It's short but POWERFUL!
It was hartbreaking.

Also high praise for the narrator, making the story come to life.

A few days later I still have Beasts of England stuck in my head.

George Orwell is extremely intentional with every single character and every line, and this book is surprisingly short, but oh does it pack a punch. Animal Farm is a classic and it's shown through the study of not only how a revolution might backfire, but also poses the question of how self-destructive the institutional structures of any political system can drive leaders very easily over the edge and fall into greed and pride abyss. It shows essentially how power can disrupt character but in a very palatable read. This is an incredibly easy book to read, would highly recommend it!

When I started reading this book, I thought it was going to be a story about animals taking over the farm and that we would follow their antics. That was partially true. We follow the animals as they overthrow the reign of cruel farmer mr. Jones. When that happens the animals live in unity for a little while. But soon after they have taken control of the farm,
the battle for power begins. And it doesn’t end well. I don’t want to spoil the ending and the further events of the book. But I do think this is a timeless and classic read.

The message within this book was also a strong one. Orwell criticizes the totalitarian rule and it’s still relevant in the modern age. He shows how the ones in charge seized power and control over the “working class”, to benefit themselves even more. Orwell did an amazing job at portraying the characters. I really felt for them.

“All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others”

Very interesting view on a society that shows how some minority claims all the power and manipulates the rest of the population to believe into only the things that are self sufficient for this minority.

I don't know at what age or mindset you would have to be to really appreciate this book for all that it is. If you read it in high school, you'd understand it, but may not truly value it. As young adult (the category I fall in), I value it, but it reads like a bedtime story. Not in a derogatory way, but it seemed simple.

I will also confess that I am not familiar enough with the historical context that surrounds this book, and maybe that is what would've also enhance this read more. Nonetheless, as much as I predicted the pigs rise, I still did not expect how much they would mirror the humans. So, that last page did shock me and for that, I am glad.

All in all, I feel really neutral about the book. Glad to have read an Orwell book and know more about what I believe is deemed as a classic. I can see how this would be revolutionary for its time.

Initial Response: 3/5; Recommend?: 2.5/5; Re-Readability: 2/5; Characters: 3/5; Plot: 3/5
Overall: 2.7/5
Would Purchase?: Maybe

Animal farm, oddly funny, foolish and bizarre that a book written almost 8 decades ago still is so relevant when it comes to how power; or must I say people in power function. Can't really blame the word "power", it is the nouns messing up nouns. Almost like human, influential aren't we?

It is werid that I could nearly can guess most of the plot but I still enjoyed reading it.
It is written in simple words, just like the seven amendments but it continues to wrap you up in this uneasy political drama world. It amusing to see how easily perspectives can be changed or made just because of fear and lack of self belief.

It is a wonderful book. Would love to dive more into political dramas, ig. Hehe.
