Well this was a fun spicy and sweet read! I've never been all that close to having a book boyfriend before for Finias would definitely be in the running. The Dual PoV from Clara and Louisa was so interesting and I loved that they both goth their own love interests that were given equal footing and development.

The characters in this were so fun and Rebecca Kenney has an amazing way with banter and details.

Not what you’d expect when you search up Nutcracker p*rn but definitely a welcome surprise (for legal reasons this is a joke)

Spice factor: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

This book was FUNNY as hell, and I definitely had a good time (which is why I finished it in a day). The prose was well done, if a bit anachronistic at times, and it definitely feels like a parody of ACOTAR and the spicy fae romantasy genre.  Clara and Louisa were genuinely interesting characters with a touching arc, and so was Drosselmeyer. The fae, unfortunately, didn’t get the character development I really wanted, and so the romances felt underdeveloped and out of nowhere. The spicy scenes were fine, nothing to write home about, but in general I prefer less spice in my stories. Actually, I really wish this book SLOWED tf down and we had the chance to witness more of this world, its characters, and their relationships.
like DAMN can a girl get a follow up on Drosselmeyer and way more Louisa/Lir banter and heart to hearts, and maybe some more wholesome Fin/Clara moments?

It’s frustrating to read a book with so much potential to be amazing but missed the mark a lot. Still, the story told was a pleasant surprise, and I genuinely enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would.

A Court of Sugar and Spice was 1,000% not what I thought that it was going to be and in the best way.

Rebecca has a way of immersing you into the worlds that she creates, somehow and it's fantastic.

This is a loose retelling of the Nutcracker and the nods to the original story are brilliant.

These sisters are thrown into a world they can't even believe is real, fae men.. fae people.. they are real and not at all what you were told as a child.

This is a dual pov that follows sisters Louisa and Clara. Louisa is extroverted, promiscuous, and adventurous. Clara is introverted, artistic, and has wild fantasies but feels like they’ll never come to fruition. They end up in faerie land after saving a fae Prince and work alongside his cousin to save the realm from the evil rat king (this is a nutcracker retelling in the loosest sense of the word).

Of course the prince, Lir, and the cousin, Finneas, are a perfect match for Louisa and Clara respectively.

I liked Clara and Fin - they were the primary reason for the maturity of this book. Lots of sex. But they really complimented each other well personality wise. I liked that Clara’s painting is seen as a true skill and not just a boring feminine activity. She has insecurities but she can see reason and Fin helps her feel more confident. Fin was my fav character in the book. He was really fun, smart, and obv powerful. He saw Clara for who she is and accepted her. He’s pretty sexual but he’s ready to be with someone who wants all of him - not just his cum that tastes different every time

I read this book with one of my book clubs, and it did not disappoint. It says it is a Nutcracker retelling, but I don't know if I would consider it a retelling, just a take on an idea. Even so, it was a fun read!
The world of Fairie is exciting and unbelievable (in the best ways), and it was intriguing to learn more about it. Our main female characters are sisters, and each has very distinct personalities. Clara, the artist, is very cautious but knows how to have fun. Her sister, Louisa, is very confident in her sexuality and knows how to use it. The girls find their match in fairies, Finias and Lin, respectively. This was a delightful read with a curse to break, candy that acts as spells, a rat king, and a boatload of spice and sarcasm.

I love how people are saying this is a "more adult" version of Barbie and the Nutcracker...

I mean...there's full on primal scenes in this. I freaking LOVED this story. It definitely WAS a holiday delight.

There is SO MUCH to "unwrap" in this retelling. I can't even...I don't even know where to start. This was high fantasy fun, action-packed, romance-filled, just great. Hella spicy too!
