It just keeps getting better. I adore all of the characters so much and can’t wait to read the next one!

Much stronger than the first book, which was a bit oddly paced and plotted. Dr. Wilde as always, remains one of my favorite main characters, with Wendell as a delightful foil to her. I loved the additions of Ariadne and Dr. Rose Farris in this one. Giving Emily a young mentee she doesn't know what to do with and another scholar to scrap with who is truly a SCHOLAR and not merely dithering about like Wendell is so perfect. I can't wait to see her adventure farther afield in the next book!!

I really enjoy that it’s written in the form of journal entries. I like that it took what worked from the first book and did a remix of that, plus giving us a bigger view of the world. Loveable characters (though I never did warm up to professor Rose), and all the different fay creatures were so inventive (and very scary). I love how smart, determined and resourceful Emily is. This is the best of cozy fantasy to me - lots of cozy elements but there an actual PLOT with STAKES! I love how all the pieces of this story came together.

Emily is an amazing heroine, and I really enjoyed the last half of this book. It had more romance than the first and more political intrigue and mystery.

Wendall remains delightful.
These two are navigating the complexities of him being a fairie king and wanting to marry her. When they make love - and it is making love, the way it is written- there is real vulnerability and hope that was so sweet. A brilliqnt moment and her love for him becomes a driving force in her desire to rescue him, despite her struggles to express herself. All very sweet and it gave the adventure greater importance

My only complaint was that I found the first half a bit slow.

Really liked this book. It was sweet and made me smile.
