Rob Lowe is a douchebag. Let's just get that out of the way ahead of time. He's pretentious, cocky, and has participated in some very bad behavior throughout his life. He's gotten his shit together in the last couple of decades, but still. Total douchebag.

That being said, I really thoroughly enjoyed [b: Stories I Only Tell My Friends|10211494|Stories I Only Tell My Friends|Rob Lowe|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1442283721s/10211494.jpg|15110962]. Celebrity memoirs are basically a combination of bragging and explaining away behaviors, and he did a really good job doing both in the first book. What was there left to say with this one?

Not all that much, actually. A bit more bragging, including that Warren Beatty banged one of his ex-girlfriends while they were still dating. This is a book about the loves of his life. Which explains why there's a whole chapter on his first trip to the Playboy mansion?

I seemingly skipped entirely over the chapter where he talks about how libraries are going extinct (seen in other GR reviews). Hey, Rob? I didn't buy your book. I also didn't check it out from the library. But I imagine an assload of people who praise it have gotten it from the library. So STFU.

There were a couple of chapters about his kids and his wife which were really great and touching. The chapter on his agent (?)'s passing, which was also great.

Those chapters earned the three. Otherwise, meh.

Pretty good, but not as good as his first book. In his first book, I loved the way he could be dishy and classy at the same time. This one didn't have as many juicy stories and he was a little self satisfied. But Rob Lowe is a good guy and a wonderful family man, and I have a soft spot for movie stars who are nice and decent and married to normal people.

This book could have used a little more cohesion, some better editing, maybe? I had heard so much about his first book, but picked this one up instead. It basically works out as a love letter or thank you to everyone who has made a big impact on his life. It's a bit redundant (especially the recounting of his time on Candlabra at least four times throughout the book). It's light and happy, which is fine sometimes.

Don't Get Me Started had an episode with Jeff Hiller talking about his love for celebrity biographies. One recommendation that came out of it was Rob Lowe's book. And since I love the ol' celebrity self-portrait, I gave it a go two whole years after first hearing the recommendation. Now I'm kicking myself for waiting. I devoured both his books back to back. Rob Lowe has lived a crazy life. He gives a long, and insane, and honest (at least what I presume to be honest) insight in to what it's like to me a mega celebrity, and it's fucking fascinating. From his climb to stardom auditioning with a young Tom Cruise for The Outsiders, to his disgusting and still sorta sexy trips to the Playboy mansion, Lowe covers it all.  We should all be so lucky to live Rob Lowe's life, but since that is unlikely, reading his books will suffice.

I adored his other memoir and was bummed it ended right before Parks and Rec. This one continued the journey and had more about his family too. He made me cry a little when he wrote about moving his oldest son to college. “Never compare your insides to someone else’s outsides.”

I will however state that I wholeheartedly disagree with your statement on page 205. "No wonder libraries are becoming irrelevant." No Mr. Lowe, no we are not! Support your local library!!

3.5 Really happy I listened to this as Rob Lowe read it. The imagined conversation between Barbra Streisand and President Clinton and his reenactment of The Ohio Scream are hard to imagine just in print. There were several moments that had me chuckling out loud. Talking about dropping his first born off at college struck a chord with me as we will be walking that road in just a couple of short years. I've tracked down The Stand to watch and just checked Behind the Candelabra dvd out of the library. I know I'll eventually get to Brothers and Sisters, Parks and Rec, and The West Wing eventually, but those are much bigger time commitments. Having had The Outsiders movie poster on my wall in high school, I'm honestly surprised I managed to missed a huge chunk of his career. Looking forward to catching up.
