I am a huge fan of Donna Grant and as soon as I know she has a new book coming out I just have to have it and I can't help but read the books as soon as I get my hands on them.

This is book 6 in the Reaper series and if you are new to this series I do suggest that you start from the very first book because there is a bit of a recap in this book but it would still be better to start from the beginning.

Dark Alpha's Hunger is a fast read that got me reading it in one sitting. It is so very well written and this story got me hooked from the very beginning.

If you are looking for a good paranormal/fantasy romance book or book series that will hook up right away, I highly recommend this book and series.

I give this 5 out of 5.

Thanks to the author for an ARC to read and give my honest opinion.

This was my first taste of the Reaper series and I probably should not have started on book six. I was a little lost on some of the stuff but my love of the Dragon Kings really helped. As I was reading the Kings I really wanted a good look at the Fae in this story, so I was happy to get a copy of this one. Eoghan and Thea's story and they were so good together.... Eoghan who was under a vow of silence until death lifted it, was immediately attracted to Thea but he wasn't allowed to act on it. Sounds kind of cheesy but the struggle Eoghan went through was just so beautifully done. Thea's love for music helped Eoghan free himself from the stones in an act that must have been fate.

What did I like? The story itself was beautifully done, loved the characters and the camaraderie of the Reapers new group. I'm just enchanted by the story and the way the author just brings two characters together like they're meant for each other by the fates.

Would I buy this book? Yes. I'm a huge fan of Fae and paranormal. When the author finalizes the series I'm definitely doing a read over.

Words for the author? I can't review your book good enough to describe the pleasure I get from reading them. Loved the Dragon Kings and the Reapers are becoming an addiction as well.

Recently I have been finding myself more and more in paranormal or fantasy types of romances. The backstory, the entire build of the world with the character dynamics that are intensely passionate have consumed me completely! So finding new authors is becoming quite an addiction. Case in point - Donna Grant's Dark Alpha's Hunger. With the synopsis, I was seriously gushing. The overall lore of the setup had my tingles blazing!

Though, I have to admit one factor before I dive head first in my gushing. The BIGGEST issue I had was that, yes I did see that this was a sort of series but I did not go back and read the prior books. I will also be completely honest with you comrades, there are snippets of connective perspectives at the jump plus throughout the plot building yet many points I still felt I was lacking backstory, lacking the character history. It did not entirely deter my overall enjoyment but I am telling you right now, I think it would have been even better if I had just read the first books in the series instead of jumping right into Dark Alpha's Hunger.

Whew - had to get that off my chest! Now moving on...

Thea and Eoghan were a little bit of like and dislikes for me! I hate to say that too because I overall liked the personalities of both characters and their romance dynamic was just delicious. It mean honestly, there were points when I was sweating it was steam-filled hot! They just had an entertaining type of interaction that made me pinning to have more scenes of them together. But as a solo perspective I felt that at many times the characters had very little depths. More to the point slightly underdeveloped is the right train of thought I want to go with - they had this amazing chemistry, but as simply themselves, I was not connected to the story in the least.

Putting the characters aside, the aspects of the genre was definitely a huge backbone of the build for me. Not only was the romance a big point to the genre but the entirety of magic, politics and family drama that intertwined with the main characters really aided my enjoyment. There is such an astonishing world that Grant developed for this series that really grips the reader in such an intense way, you really feel like you are in the world.

Overall - I loved the romance, and I really enjoyed the world building for the fantasy/paranormal attributes, but the characters as individuals really lacked a level of depths I would have really liked to see more multilayered. There were also points of what felt like the dramatic climax becoming more and more rushed. But honestly, I really want to add more of Donna Grant to my TBR, I am thinking I might change my opinion a little more if I had more of the series under my belt!

What I love about these books is that the story keeps moving forward without ever slowing down and making it boring. The draw back to that (and to how short these are) is how fast everything happens. Like here, Thea and her best friend simply accept everything they're told right away without much, if any, convincing. At least with Thea's part it was shoved in her face. While I like that because then I don't get frustrated with them being stubbornly against it, I also sometimes find it ridiculous. I mean, come on, falling in love within a day or two when you don't even know the person? Apparently I can't win.

Thea is an orphan and very much a solitary person. She prefers to be alone to the point that she could gladly go days without even talking to her friends. Since she was a child she has felt a pull to a specific stone portal and always goes there. Music has saved her in so many ways and Thea rarely goes out without her violin. Often she goes to these stones and plays. She didn't know why they called to her, but she's about to find out.

Eoghan is trapped in that dark realm, still running from the creature he can't see, when he hears music that promises him freedom. It's a fight to get thru the portal, but with Thea's help he barely manages to make it and destroy it before the creature can follow him. He tells Thea to run, and that's exactly what she does. Even so, Eoghan finds himself seeking her out once more.

When they meet again, it's pretty much insta everything. Or as they figure, it was Fate. Eoghan's desire for Thea is almost overpowering, and despite everything that she's already seen, Thea can't stop wanting him either. When Thea gets kidnapped, Eoghan will stop at nothing to get her back and then to get the answers about why. Even if it means going against his vow to Erith.

Despite not moving any closer to stopping Bran, this was a great step forward. I loved the surprises we got here. From what Erith decides to do with Eoghan to whose daughter Thea is. We also get a bunch of new characters making it obvious this series is far from over. Plus we end with Erith going back for her sword, so that's bound to make things even more exciting.

There were a couple things that I really would have liked explained more. First and foremost, where exactly was Eoghan stuck? This seemed kind of important to me. So when he just escapes it and that's the end of that, I was left wanting to know more about the place and how exactly he got there and such. Then there was Thea's music. I get it, she's fae. Daughter of a powerful one at that. But how the heck does that translate into her having some special fae music power or whatever?
SpoilerAnd how the hell does that save her life?!

Anyway. This was great and I look forward to what's to come.

Donna Grant is clearly talented and this one had so much potential, but it still fell flat for me. The story felt rushed and I never quite felt a connection with the characters. To be fair, I haven't read the whole series, so I did feel like I was missing some things that are mentioned in this one. On the flip-side of that, the blurb does mention that this is part of that series, and maybe it's just me, but I didn't see anywhere that mentioned a continuing story. A small disclaimer in the blurb to warn readers of the necessity to read earlier books would go a long way toward avoiding reviews like this one. That said, I did manage to follow the story well enough, but I feel like I would've gotten more out of it with more world building and depth. Based on my lack of connection to the story or characters in this sixth book in the series, I am undecided on whether or not I'll check out the earlier books.

I enjoyed Eoghan and Thea's story. She draws him out of the dark with her music, saves him, which was neat. It was interesting to see him take over the new group of Reapers. Thea had to learn a lot very quickly and a number of secondary characters played into her journey that seemed to be setting up future books.
I haven't read all the books in the series, so I'm not that familiar, but it surprised me that after centuries of keeping his vow of Silence Eoghan suddenly started to speak. I couldn't quite follow that reasoning. I'm also not quite sure what he did that magically pulled the Reapers into the fabulous team, but everyone was very happy with his extraordinary leadership;).
Overall a good audiobook. It definitely set up the second series with the new group of Reapers and prepared for the big final book in the first series.

We finally get to find Eoghan! He is drawn to music and is able to follow that music to find his way out of the realm he was stuck on. He now has interesting eyes. He is also completely drawn to Thea, the musician who helped him.

Despite Death hiding away, she does make an appearance to Eoghan with a proposition. He is not completely convinced he is the person for the job, but soon finds himself fitting right in. Another advantage the Reapers have is that Bran does not know Eoghan is still alive, or the secret he carries.

Xaneth, a spy for both courts, kidnaps Thea which begins a whole rabbit hole of just who Thea is. She grew up in foster homes and has no idea of her powers or her true family. Eoghan has taken her as his, and works to find out the reason Thea is so important.

The ending of Dark Alpha's Hunger was a surprise to me. Down to everyone that helps confront the person responsible for Thea's problems. I was totally freaking out over how far things went. Reveals are made that may cause problems for multiple people and I am really worried about what the knowledge will bring to the Reapers.

FTC DISCLAIMER: I RECEIVED AN E-ARC FROM THE PUBLISHER THROUGH NET GALLEY. I VOLUNTARILY OFFER MY HONEST REVIEW OF THE BOOK, THOUGH IT IS NOT EXPECTED OF ME! RECEIPT OF THIS BOOK IN THIS MANNER DOES NOT AFFECT MY OPINION OF THE BOOK OR THE CONTENT OF MY REVIEW!

Like another GoodReads reviewer of this book, I have not read the entire series, so I often feel as though I am missing out on key elements of the overall arc. However, I do find the books engaging and engrossing despite my lack of backstory knowledge. Unfortunately, with this book I had a hard time remembering who Eoghan was, and Death's surprise move regarding him felt out of place, especially since it seemed like he came back only to be lost to his "team" again. I also felt that we didn't get much of his backstory, making him a difficult character to connect with. Thea was a bit more likeable, and her lack of backstory was well explained, going so far as to show us readers some of her childhood, which I thought was a wonderful touch, because it made me more sympathetic to her. Thea's paranormal music ability was not well explained and I felt the story lacked because of it. The romance felt really rushed to me, though I could see why in light of Thea's parentage! What a twist there and what saved it from a 2 star review! While this was a quick read, and somewhat engrossing, I felt it suffered too much from a "rushed" feeling.

**This e-book was provided by St. Martin's Paperbacks & Netgalley in exchange for a honest review**

The Dark Alpha’s Hunger is book six in the Reaper series, a spinoff of the Dark Kings series. Which I have been reading and love. Most romance novels you can pick up any book in the series and read it out of order. While this is somewhat true I had a bit of trouble following along with the world and references to past stories and believe it may have been easier if I started with book one, but it’s not a must. I plan to do plan to read the others in this series because this book was amazing and while this is in the Dark Kings world there wasn’t too much overlap in this book so I don’t think it’s absolutely necessary to read the Dark Kings series as well, but I do recommend it.

Eoghan is a Reaper with a traumatic past that drove him to a vow of silence. Thea is a orphaned half fae with a love for the violin. Her music draws Eoghan from a dark place and to her. Thea is drawn into this mysterious world of fae and reapers that she knew nothing about.

This book has so many twists and turns that I didn’t see coming. As they search for a rogue reaper that’s trying to kill death herself the characters get caught up in another’s plot and find themselves drawn into secrets that few know.

Thea's music is the key to freeing Eoghan from the hell realm he is in. Things have changed on Earth while he is gone though. He also can't stop thinking about Thea.

I really enjoy this book. Eoghan has always been a mystery since he rarely talks. His history is so heartbreaking I just wanted to give him a hug. Thea is the perfect person for him because she brings out the best in him. She is also great for the new team. Thea's lineage was surprising and unexpected. I quite enjoyed that twist even though it was quite emotional.

I can't wait to see what is going to happen next after the epilogue. Death is finally ready to kick some ass and I can't wait.
