I’ve tried twice now but I just can’t force myself to sit through it might need to read some easier works that add to the context first I’m not sure tbh

  • Plot- or character-driven? A mix
  • Strong character development? It's complicated
  • Loveable characters? No

  • Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated

Sorry Dante
No one cares about the Florence parts of the story anymore...

Seriously, obviously this is a classic. I read a really great translation from the Gutenberg Project that kept the original rhyme scheme of the poem, and I think it really added to the experience.

What is there to say that hasn't already been taught in a thousand college lectures.

there's just something about almost 600 year old italian self-insert fanfiction that can be so personal to a girl like myself.

So the copy I read turned out to be an abridged edition, but anyway, I have read the main parts of Inferno I guess.

Normally I don't love epic poems, the Odyssey, Spenser's Faerie Queen, Pericles are all texts that I have not massively enjoyed. But something about Inferno has always had a bit of a hold on me and I still cannot quite articulate why. I think its just the creativity, the irony of all the punishments, the way sinners bodies are taken apart or buried are described in such detail. The descriptions of Ptolemaea were genuinely so chilling. Of course not a lot actually happens its just a walk through and out of hell with a lot of name dropping that I don't context for, but still super captivating. I guess i need to actually find a full length version now RIP.
