This was a beautiful and gentle read. I like to say I don't like romance, but this book is pure romance, no doubt about it. Not boy/girl romance either, but genuine life romance.

I will be reading the rest in the series, but will probably dole them out to myself as I need cheering. I was so pleased the ending wasn't perfect for Anne, and can't wait to see what happens next.

My favorite piece of classic literature. We follow Anne, an orphan who finds herself in Prince Edward Island in 1907. The story follows her through her youth and is a call to the power of imagination.

Very well written with mini plots along the way, I liked the way the author wrote about Anne in her younger years at Green Gables. IĀ  thought the end of the book was a little rushed as Anne grew up too quickly, but so is life.

I did read this book many years ago and it did not take for me. This time around I understood why it is an enduring classic. It is full of rich characters, including the flawed but mesmerizing Anne and PEI itself, and the lifestyle of the time is encapsulated in warm amber. It is genuinely funny at many points, and at the end adult and heartbreaking. Now I am set on reading the whole series and finding one of the good miniseries adaptations.
