Super easy & fun read. I read it to my daughter & will read it again when she’s a little older. The ending also hits different if you have a little sister

SUMMARY: (SPOILER WARNING)

A retelling of the original Lewis Carroll tale, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.

Alice falls down a rabbit hole and finds herself in a strange nonsensical land filled with curious creatures. We follow her as she meets them and tries to make sense of the nonsense of Wonderland.

REVIEW:

It has been many years since I've read the original Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. But my son (age eight) asked to read it after we started playing a video game about Alice in Wonderland together. Unfortunately I couldn't find my copy of the original (I think it got purged along the way), but I had this retelling on hand in our book collection and thought we would try it.

This was fairly good! Like I said, it's been awhile since I've read the original, so I can't speak to how close it was, but it seems to have all the elements from the original story -- and even some scenes that don't usually make it into the shorter retellings of Alice. This one is about the same length as the original, though, so that makes sense.

I liked the language used and the illustrations were whimsical and sweet, with just the right amount of them to not be too distracting while also helping to keep my son's attention.

I was enthralled with the story, although I could tell he got a little bored near the end. We read it over a few days though and so it was alright.

Overall I'd recommend it as a good retelling of Alice. I'd recommend the original more, but this was still pretty good.

You know how the most popular children's books are the ones you feel obligated to read? I had seen the Disney cartoon as a child and just saw the Tim Burton "adaptation" and decided that I liked both well enough that I'd probably like the original story. I did LIKE it but I can't push it much further than that. I thought this edition was very pretty and therefore, it'll stay on my bookshelves (maybe to read to future children) but the story didn't grab me much. I found a lot of the characters, including sometimes Alice, kind of annoying. I also wish their had been variation in the two stories. In both she goes to identical other worlds (Wonderland and The Looking Glass World) and meets an array of odd characters. But she doesn't stay with any of them quite long enough to get to know any of them. I might have been more interested with fewer characters. I also didn't like how all the characters seemed to be very crabby. Kinda put me on edge reading it. I am still glad I finally read this children's classic, merely for the fact that I can now say I did and it was only ok.
