I could not put this down from the start! This was an interesting and complex story. And it definitely doesn’t go we’re you think it is going to go. I can’t wait for the next book to find out where this story is going.

Seriously? I mean seriously, if you haven’t read anything by Jewel E Ann you need to, and this series is a perfect place to start. This is the beginning of the second duet in this series, so you don’t HAVE to read the first duet because this one is about a totally new cast of characters, but Jewel writes such amazing stories I think you would love them as well.
This is the story of Josie and Colten, they met at 9 years old and there friendship is timeless. This story bops back and forth in the timeline of their world and it works.
There is so much to this story that of course we need and get a second book to finish this duet but because we get that second book this one does end in a cliffhanger. Of course I knew that but still was so invested by the story that it caught me by surprise. I’m just thankful we don’t have to wait long for the rest.
Jewel writes complex characters with vulnerabilities that make them so human and relatable and that makes the story even more real. These characters are going to stick with me and live in my brain for a while.
All in all I loved this story and I can’t wait to see how it ends!

I liked almost everything about this book other than the way the couple get back together. 17 years of hate/grudge, pain and almost just like that, a few really cute words said by our colten and she is back in his arms. Yeh, no not working for me.
Also I am not really a fan of past and present story lines, this has that and most of the time I don't really care for the past storylines, this one was good, loved Josie and Coltens mom.

I don't know that I'll ever process what I just read but I'm blown away! My initial impression was that this was a great love story with a few twists knowing it is a duet. However, the plot was completely unexpected and such an amazing twist that there was no way I'd have seen this coming.
I adored Josie, loved every scene she was in and wished she was in more when it was Colten's POV. Her mind is fascinating and throughout the book it gets more and more interesting.
The dynamic between Colten and Josie is very interesting. They have a push and pull that transcended 17 years of separation and it came back just as strong as it did when they were kids.
After finishing this book, I know without a doubt that this book will finish in my top 5 of the year!

I read the author's first two books in the duet recently, though I know I didn't need to as a prerequisite for this duet, but maybe I just wanted to see what I was getting myself into? LOL
This author is one of my favorites. She can write quirky and cute and then emotional and somewhat out there. Nevertheless, she writes it and I will read it!
The prologue of this book is interesting. When you get to the part in the book that is the "twist" I actually went back to read the prologue over.
Colten Mosley moved into the neighborhood of Josephine Watts the summer before fourth grade and neither one of their lives will be the same. They had a on again/off again relationship throughout their whole schooling. Sometimes they were a couple and sometime not and mostly because of Josie. Nine years together and then seventeen years apart. The last time she saw Colten was when they were eighteen years old.
Now, seventeen years later she is a medical examiner and Colten is a new detective in town. They are back in each other's lives, though she does not want it as so. She will never forgive him for what he did to her. I enjoyed the chapters where we got to see them as children/teenagers growing up. It felt like a looking back or remembering more than actually being there. (if that makes sense).
Josie is a strong woman, and she grew on me throughout the story. But Colten...wow. Yes, please.
"Josie wasn't some girl in my life; she was my life. The sun. The air. Gravity. My whole world and reason for existing." Who doesn't want a man to love her like that?
Looking forward for book two to see what happens with Josie and Colten and how they handle their new experiences together. (No spoilers here!)
Thank you to the author and Valentine PR for an advance readers copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

From the day Colten moved in across the street, he and Josie were inseperable. Even though Josie's chief of police father has wanred Colten from being with her, Colten has always found his way back to Josie. But just before high school graduation, Colten up-ends all of their plans to be together after graduation.
Now, 17 years later, Josie works as a coroner and Colten as a detective. As their paths continue to cross, the two grow closer and closer. The question is whether Josie can forgive Colten for leaving her when she thought she needed him most.
This first book in their duet goes back and forth between present day and their past, and lets us see not only how they grew close in their childhood, but also how different they've become as adults. One of the things I've come to love about Jewel E Ann's writing is just how raw and honest her characters are. They are flawed and have bumps in the road, and don't have their stories wrapped up conveniently in tidy little bows. There are mistakes made, and there are messy situations that need forgiven.
I especially love this series because there is a hint of the unknown in each of the books in this series. Situations that can't quite be explained, and that make us wonder if what we've always known is as cut and dried as we've always believed.
I love when each book in a series is better than the last, and this series did not disappoint! I can't wait to find out what else lies in store for Colten and Josie in the second book of their duet!
Thanks so much to Valentine PR for gifting me a copy of this ARC.
