A story about a girl and a wolf? I miss this concept so much that i came and found this book. It was much better than i thought, it was so beautiful and heart-touching. Im reading this in 2020 and i love it. Many people said this book would have worked for them 10 years ago? Well, i tried to think what would a 10-year-ago-me think about this? She prob gave this book 5 stars. But this is me, right here in 2020 and still love wolf stories, so yes it a 4 stars from me. I love the characters. They were so cute and sweet. And god. I listened to this on audiobook, and the narrator's voice (Jenna Lamia ) was so soft and beautiful. I just wanted to hear more of her voice

I really liked this book. At times it felt a little too cheesy, but the truth is I love some good ol' teenage romance, pining, and stupid decisions.
It was a really easy read and I enjoyed it a lot. The characters grew on me and by the end of it I was really keen to read the next book!

I read this book because so many raved about it. I liked getting alternating chapters/POV's from the two main characters. It was also clever, and an important part of the book, to provide the temperature at the beginning of each chapter.
Grace was attacked by wolves as a child, but never turned into one. Sam is a wolf who loves Grace from afar. Grace longs to meet the wolf who saved her, who won't come near. During the warm weather Sam is in human form. They finally meet when Grace is 16.
My biggest complaint with the book is a character would have a memory, which often gave away what would happen in the next scene. This happened at least 3x, which took away from the mystery.
But Grace and Sam are cute together and it's a clever premise.

‘Shiver’ felt a little long for me – only because it was hard to get into; the pace was slow and not a lot happened. I did enjoy the relationship element between Grace and Sam, even if it was a little stalker-esque. I’d hoped for a darker tone with the werewolf treatment for this novel, but it focused more on the pack mentality and ‘canine’ forms rather than something monstrous and half-human-half-wolf, fighting against an inner evil vying for control over the physical body. It was very light and fluffy and failed to hook me in.
Maggie Stiefvater does have a beautiful way of writing though, she has a lyrical turn of phrase which helps paint beautiful scenes in the imagination. She also has a great knack for great world building and underlying mythology in her novels, and where ‘Shiver’ failed to captivate me, it was still an interesting concept.
As far as story goes, I found it ultimately very predictable and unoriginal. It followed a formula rife in YA paranormal romances; which I could have overlooked if there was something that hooked me, but unfortunately ‘Shiver’ fell short.
Grace was a strong character, which is the most redeeming quality of this book. She is intelligent and observant, juxtaposing Sam’s alternate point of view (which I had a little trouble relating to). As the narration alternated between Grace and Sam, I kept getting pulled out of the novel, distracted by trying to find a connection and get my bearings. I felt if the novel had remained with a single character and was only half its length, if would have been a far superior story.
There have been a lot of parallels drawn between this book and ‘Twilight’ – and even the sparkly vampires were more menacing than the wolves of Mercy Falls. I wouldn't particularly recommend this book; maybe to a younger audience – early teens – but I’m uncertain if many would have the attention span to complete the novel.
I didn't shiver, but shuddered: potential, but disappointing.

It was ok. Like 2.5/5 or 3/5. It was not super well written. I fell asleep for like an hour and a half and when I woke up I hadn't missed enough to rewind the book since nothing really happened and everything is repeated 10 thousand times. The characters were ok. It started off like cutesy kissing innocent and then randomly turned to "I need to fuck you" - so I did not like that either. I thought the politics of the wolves was interesting though.
I think I will read the next one though since I am curious what she's gonna do with it.

I wanted to like this book but it gives off a bit of twilight vibes. It was pretty boring throughout and I really couldn’t understand where they author was trying to go with the story.

First off, this will be short, because I admit - I didn't finish this book. I got to about halfway through, holding on to hope that something was going to happen but unfortunately, nothing did. I picked up this book a couple days ago, and today, I can barely even remember what it's about. Something about a girl with a crush on a wolf, and a wolf with a crush on a girl - and they both think about it a lot. And that's IT.
I'm bummed that I didn't like this book. I'm actually really drawn to a lot of the writing in it. Some parts were simply beautiful, and very atmospheric in a way that I enjoyed. But eventually, even among pretty writing, I still needed something to actually happen in the story. I know that sometimes you need to invest in a book in order to really get to the meat of the plot - but in books like that, in order to keep the reader invested, you really need to have amazing characters that make the reader want to wait to find out what happens to them.
Unfortunately, that wasn't the case here either. The characters came off sort of flat and predictable, and I just couldn't find it in myself to continue reading to find out what (if anything) ever happened to them.
It pains me to give any book 1 star, because I have such a love for books and realize that authors put lots of work into them - but this one just wasn't for me at all.

I picked up Shiver after greatly enjoying Stiefvater's Scorpio Races and The Raven Boys. This one did not quite capture my interest as much as the other two, but there were some intriguing elements.
The primary story here is the focus on Grace and Sam's love, even though Sam spends most of his time as a wolf, and Grace doesn't even know he is human for the first section of the book. Since I prefer plot to romance, this meant I wasn't quite as interested in the heavy portions of this.
The elements that I did find intriguing were those focused on the world building for Sam's werewolves, the back stories of the individual pack members, and how the wolf virus functions. The ending was faster paced than the rest of the story and kept me reading... and will probably have me picking up the next book.
